How big of a mash tun do I need is a relatively common question. The answer depends on what type of beers you want to brew (higher gravity = more grain), how large of batches you want to brew and what technique you will use to mash. Brew Hardware has put together a chart and related guide for estimating mash tun size required based on efficiency and mashing method.
Check out Brew Hardware’s Mashing Category for their full lineup of false bottoms, conversion kits [See: Hands on Review: Brew Hardware’s Cooler Mash Tun Conversion Kit] and ready made mash tuns.

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:
12″ stainless steel domed false bottom with upgraded large ID connection elbow
One piece (Brew Hardware custom designed) machined bulkhead with interior barb
2 piece stainless ball valve – can be upgraded to 3 piece
Required length of high temp silicone tubing
Does not include cooler or barb/camlock. Barb and camlock fitting options are available under accessories on the right side of the screen.
What makes our kit different than the competition? Ugh, now we have to brag just a little. The bulkhead we include in this kit is custom machined out of hex bar stock to our exact specifications making it extremely simple to install and leak free from day one. It’s not a bunch of off the shelf parts made with half a roll of teflon tape. We also use a high flow elbow connector at the false bottom which also features a custom made smooth bore retainer. Long story short, we’ve held off on offering cooler false bottom kits for a long time until we had all the high end components described here.
Options are available both for an Igloo 10 gallon cooler and for Home Depot’s 10 gallon cooler. A complete converted option is also available. That includes the cooler along with your choice of connection fittings. In my experience it’s cheaper to grab the conversion kit from Brew Hardware and source the cooler separately. See some links to compatible coolers below.
This is the conversion kit I use and it’s… awesome. Check out my Hands on Review.

CIP (Clean in Place) Spray Balls are generally used for vessels that are too large to move. Since they’re too large to move you… clean them in place. If you have a larger setup, you could incorporate these into your system or routine to help clean your vessels more easily.
There are a couple of main styles of CIP spray balls stationary and rotary. Note that if you’re going to try and use this for sparging, you may want to use the fixed spray version as Sam did. You’re probably not going to get enough pressure with gravity alone to turn the rotary version.
True Weldless bulkheads are available in a number of configurations for varied applications. The 5/8″ Barb version is included in their Cooler Conversion Kit. I’ve used that extensively
If you’ve dealt with other weldless kits and bulkheads you’ll know that typically a certain finesse is required when installing. They can be a bit of a pain to to get working correctly and can require some adjustments over time to keep leaks under control. Depending on the design “just tight enough” is really close to “too tight, your o-ring just popped out”. True Weldless bulkheads – at least the style I have – are well thought out, well built and you can actually tighten them down.
A real issue with these and a lot of other stuff that Brew Hardware carries is availability. They seem to struggle. Along with that offerings can change quickly.

MoreBeer!’s Patent Pending sparge arm design is the perfect addition to almost any all grain setup! This sparge arm assembly is made completely of stainless steel and silicone, and has two adjustment points. One of these will help to hold the sparge arm against your kettle, while the other allows you to move the sparge arm up or down inside the kettle to accommodate different amounts of grain. These adjustment knobs are very easy to hand tighten and loosen, meaning no tools are necessary. Excellent for sparging as well as recirculating your mash in a RIMS or HERMS system!
To use, simply install on your kettle wall, tighten down the red stopper to hold the sparge arm in place, adjust the height of the bottom disc to be right above your grain bed but below the mash tun’s water level, and adjust the flow level using the included ball valve. This unit will not include a barb or quick disconnect on the inlet of the ball valve, as every brewery is different. Please choose an inlet attachment from the sparge arms recommended items. Note – This sparge arm will not fit on most coolers. Make sure to check out the video in the video tab below.
Features
100% stainless and silicone construction
Two adjustment knobs make it extremely universal
Included ball valve allows you to increase or decrease the flow rate during sparge or recirculation
Included check ball will prevent back flow
Can adjust from the top of your kettle to 12-13 inches down into your kettle
A single, large diameter outlet port trickles onto a stainless disc, which distributes sparge water gently and evenly. This port is also much easier to flush out and keep clean than many other sparge assemblies with multiple small holes that grain gets stuck in during recirculation
Stainless tube measures 18.5″ from the top to the bend, and 8.5″ from the bottom to the center of the distribution disc.
Can be mounted on a lip that is up to 7/8″ wide
Has a 1/2″ FPT ball valve
