Looking for an easy to use pH meter at a great price? The Beverage Doctor is here to help you get your mashes to the perfect pH.

The Beverage Doctor will get you a very accurate reading with its 0.01 pH resolution. The calibration process couldn’t be easier to perform, just place the probe in the buffer solution closest to pH of the sample you’ll be testing and press the button! This pH meter also includes ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) so you don’t have to get your sample all the way down to room temperature before you take your reading.

The Beverage Doctor features a replaceable probe in case yours is lost or damaged. Homebrewing can be a tough environment for your pH probe so we feel you shouldn’t have to buy a whole new pH meter everytime your probe breaks. The cap that holds the probe storage solution has a very tight seal and should prevent your probe from drying out while not in use. Don’t worry about getting this meter wet either, because the entire unit is waterproof!

My rule of thumb for unmilled grain storage is about 5 lbs per gallon.  At that estimate, You could get about 41.25 lbs of grain in the 33 quart (8.25 gallons) container and about 15 lbs of grain in the 12 quart (3 gallon) container.  These are rough estimates.  Actual capacities will vary.

  • Gamma Seal Lids – Hands on Review – are a great upgrade to standard buckets.  You attach the base of the unit to the bucket and leave that intact.  The lid screws on and off easily.  No more prying lids off.  These are also airtight.  I use buckets with Gamma Seal Lids as my primary storage for bulk grain and recipe kits.
  • How much grain can you store in a 5 gallon bucket?  My rule of thumb for grain storage capacity is 5 lbs per gallon.  With that estimate a  50 lb sack of grain fits in (2) 5 gallon buckets.  That’s a rough estimate, actual storage capacity will vary.

American Pale Ale Kits at MoreBeer

From the “prices on everything continue to skyrocket” department the price on this has stayed the same since May of 2022 when we featured this as a Kit of the Week deal. At that time the all grain kit was $23.99 and the extract kit was $31.99.

Looking for the perfect Pale Ale to share with friends this summer? Do you like a Pale Ale with a rich malt flavor and a ton of hop character but without an overwhelming bitterness? Then the Pale Ale II should be your next brew.

We took our American Pale recipe and upped the malt, threw a ton of hops in the finish for flavor, but kept the bitterness the same. We think toning down the perceived bitterness is one reason we consistently get great reviews from brewers sharing this with friends.

Keeping it real: Part of the success of this kit is blending a lot of Willamette and Cascade hops in the finish. This isn’t a wild, new or crazy idea… this is old school. Cascade and Willamette were the hops that helped put craft brewing on the map in the 1980’s. The reason they are still so popular… they make a damn good beer. We like damn good beer. And yes we like to wear our Sperry Topsiders and listen to Van Halen when we drink this (note if you were born in the 80’s ignore this comment).

This looks similar to my 24″ Stainless Whisk.  That whisk is an easy upgrade that I generally recommend for all but small batch only brewers.  Check out my Hands on Review of that great tool.

Use this on brew day in your mash tun and brew kettle.  In the mash tun… a whisk like this makes quick work of breaking up up doughballs.  In the brew kettle… Use to incorporate extract, stir the brew kettle or start a kettle whirlpool.

Looking for the perfect Pale Ale to share with friends this summer? Do you like a Pale Ale with a rich malt flavor and a ton of hop character but without an overwhelming bitterness? Then the Pale Ale II should be your next brew.

We took our American Pale recipe and upped the malt, threw a ton of hops in the finish for flavor, but kept the bitterness the same. We think toning down the perceived bitterness is one reason we consistently get great reviews from brewers sharing this with friends.

Keeping it real: Part of the success of this kit is blending a lot of Willamette and Cascade hops in the finish. This isn’t a wild, new or crazy idea… this is old school. Cascade and Willamette were the hops that helped put craft brewing on the map in the 1980’s. The reason they are still so popular… they make a damn good beer. We like damn good beer. And yes we like to wear our Sperry Topsiders and listen to Van Halen when we drink this (note if you were born in the 80’s ignore this comment).

The Vittles Vault line of containers are very popular for bulk grain storage.  They have a large opening for easy access and have an airtight design.

How much grain can this hold? The 35 lb size is listed as having an 8.5 gallon capacity.  My rule of thumb for unmilled grain storage is 5 lbs per gallon.  At that rate, this would hold about 42.5 lbs of grain.  That’s a rough estimate.  Actual storage capacity will vary.
