CIP (Clean in Place) Spray Balls are generally used for vessels that are too large to move.  Since they’re too large to move you… clean them in place.  If you have a larger setup, you could incorporate these into your system or routine to help clean your vessels more easily.

Other possible homebrew applications: A CIP ball could be as part of a recirculating or sparging setup or as part of a keg or carboy cleaning setup.  I use this rotary spray ball with my Mark II Keg and Carboy Cleaner.  See: Mark II Keg and Carboy Washer Mod – SS CIP Spray Ball

Potential Uses:  Help with cleanup on brew day, make your kegs shine like new (see photo below) and use around the kitchen and for BBQ.  I use similar gloves when I apply rub for smoking meats.  It helps to prevent against cross contamination and I also like that it helps keep my hands from smelling like… bbq rub.  If you’re a BBQ-er like me, check out…  BBQ Finds, it’s like Homebrew Finds, but for… BBQ.

I use protective gloves when dealing with harsh chemicals  The photo above is from my post on rebuilding kegs.  Here I’m using Bar Keepers Friend – Jump To: Section on Bar Keeper’s Friend – to clean a keg.  I used protective gloves several times during this process.

Why would you want a Vacuum Sealer for homebrewing?  Vacuum sealers are indispensable for storing hops.  You can save money by getting in on bulk hop buys [See: Recent Hop Finds]. I like the fact that these are… stainless steel, stepless (keep reading) and the fact that they stay tight (keep reading).  These clamps are designed so that there are no steps (gaps) on the inside.  That reduces the possibility that tubing will be torn or damaged.  These are single use clamps.  The upside of that is… Oetiker Stepless clamps will not loosen over time.  When they’re tight, they’re tight.  I really like that for kegerator applications because… A: I don’t like to empty CO2 tanks for no good reason and B: I don’t like standing beer in my kegerator.

For me, getting a refractometer was one of those upgrades that made a lot of difference.  With a refractometer you need a sample size of two drops.  I figured that this would pay for itself in beer savings alone.  I also had just broken my hydrometer and came to the realization that hydrometers are made of breakable glass that can break! 🙂

Ever wonder what other universal poppet o-rings are made of? Us too, after all this is one of the most high contact o-rings in you draft beer setup. We took matters into our own hands and worked with our suppliers to source a 304 Stainless Steel + Food Grade Silicone option. Stainless steel construction on all the metal parts and premium quality food grade silicone for the o-ring.

Our pledge to you… Let’s face it, the stainless pieces in most universal replacement poppets should last a long, long time. How about the o-rings? Not so much… lost, broken, cracked, off smell. This is where our pledge comes in… we’ll always carry replacement o-rings for these universal poppets. No need to guess what size replacements to buy or completely replace your universal poppets because you don’t have a reliable source for replacements.

 

I use universal style poppets exclusively when rebuilding kegs. Finding the right OEM specific replacement poppets can be a chore. Beyond finding the right part number, these can be prohibitively expensive. Paying $10 to $14, or more, for an OEM poppet isn’t fun. In fact, if you really had to pay that, it may not even make sense to keep the keg.

I’ve long advocated to tossing OEM o-rings immediately. You don’t know what they’re made of, and you can’t get replacements. Replacing them immediately with a known quality o-ring and known part number before trimming to fit means you’ll be using the right materials and have a source for replacements.

Well… finally there’s an option that comes with quality o-rings made from the right materials out of the box!  Beyond that, Valuebrew has pledged to always carry replacement o-rings, so you’ll always have a source when the time comes for replacements.  Available in 5 and 10 packs with the option to add on a pack of replacement o-rings.

Back in stock!  These had been out of stock for months. We’ll the full story is they came back in stock a few weeks ago, but sold out so quickly that I wasn’t able to get a post up. So, as of this update… they’re back in stock after months of being sold out!  Get them while you can.

  • pH Meter: You can use a pH meter to check the pH of your water, mash, [test Star San effectiveness] and finished beer.
  • TDS Meter: TDS meters can are helpful for brewing if you’re using a RO filter or if you purchase RO (reverse osmosis) water for brewing.  If you’re using an RO filter a TDS meter tells you how effective your filter is and can help you know if your filters need to be replaced.  If you buy RO water, a TDS meter can let you know what you’re getting as some water processors add minerals back for flavor.  A TDS meter will allow you to make sure you’re getting what you want.
