Inline CO2 Regulator [control each keg separately] + Hands on Review & Hacks

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

  • A small barbed regulator for use with liquid or gas
  • Made from acetyl, nitrile, brass and stainless steel parts
  • Controls pressure from 0 – 150 psi
  • Includes 3/16 inch

Notes from HBF: This is an inline secondary regulator.  You still need a primary regulator attached to your CO2 tank.  The idea is, you set the primary to the highest pressure you will use (without exceeding specifications of any component of your system) and then use these regulators inline (one per line) to fine tune pressure and carbonation [See: Balancing Your Draft System].  As an example, you could set your primary to 25 PSI for faster force carbonation and set each line to a different pressure based on desired carbonation level.  Since this does not have a gauge, you need some sort of a gauge to use for tuning this in.  The gauge doesn’t have to stay connected, just while you’re setting the regulator.  This is a perfect application of a Spunding Valve [See: Build a Spunding Valve! – How and Why]

The MKIII Dual Gauge gas regulator is built to last. With a large body and precision diaphragm, this regulator provides high flow rates and very accurate adjustment.

Aluminum 5 lb CO2 Tank D1056

Aluminum 5 lb CO2 Tank from MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

A new 5 lb CO2 tank is one of the required purchases when you’re changing over from bottling to kegging your beer.

This brand new, 5lb aluminum CO2 tank ships free in the 48 contigous states, and because it is made of aluminum rather than steel you can feel confident that it will never rust. All new CO2 tanks are shipped empty and will require either filling or exchanging for a full tank. Most local homebrew shops will stock gas to exchange, and many local welding supply companies can fill tanks on site.

CO2 tanks should always be stored in an upright position.

Dimensions: 18″ Tall x 5.25″ wide.

Brand new aluminum 20 lb CO2 tank made from high strength aluminum allowy and high quality CGA320 valves. Because it is made of aluminum rather than steel you can feel confident that it won’t rust. Made from corrosion resistant, engineered Aluminum
Brushed finish
Thick, durable cylinder walls

Tip: Get a big CO2 tank.  At my supplier, it costs around $20 to swap out an empty 5 lb tank.  It costs around $25 to swap out an empty 20 lb tank.  It’s more than 3 times the cost to refill the smaller tank!  This will pay for itself quickly both in time and money.

CM Becker Check Valved Ball Lock Disconnect Gas – Keep Beer Flowing the Right Way! – $12.99 + free ship eligible, limited availability

CM Becker Check Valved Ball Lock Disconnect Gas In - Flare KEG729

CM Becker Check Valved Ball Lock Disconnect Gas In – Flare from MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Sleep a little easier knowing this gas in ball lock with built-in check valve has your back. The internal check valve allows gas to flow out, but won’t allow backflow of liquid into your gas system. Many manifolds and regulators already feature check valves, but this disconnect will keep liquid from ever entering your gas lines in the first place. Especially handy if you force carbonate your beer using the bev out dip tube!

Why we love it: Because we’ve had beer shoot back into our gas line and that sucks. At some point you will have a keg that is pressurized more than the pressure in your gas system. This could be caused by different carbonation levels, a keg sitting at room temperature, etc. So for example if the pressure in your keg is at 20 psi and your regulator is set at 12 psi, when you connect your gas in quick-disconnect liquid shoots from the keg into the gas line. Eliminate that possibility with this ingenious fitting.

Features:

  • Internal Check Valve protects your system from liquid back flow
  • Made in Germany and assembled in the USA by CMB.
  • Extremely high quality for years of service.
  • NSF Approved for Food Grade Service!

Pair of Beer & Gas Tubing Quick Disconnects with Shutoff – $10.99, Limited Availability

Beer & Gas Quick Connect – In-Line Set (With Shut-Off) from MoreBeer

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Use these high quality, food-grade quick-disconnects on your gas and beer tubing lines. Uses might include the following:

  • On a gas system to unhook your tank and regulator from your manifold so you take it with you.
  • On a beer line to easily switch between ball lock, pin-lock, or a commercial tap
  • On a counter-pressure bottle filler to be able to easily connect to your existing gas line.

This plastic quick disconnect set features 1/4″ barb which can be used with tubing ID 3/16″ through 5/16″. The quick disconnect functionality is activated by a shrouded thumb latch. The temperature range is -40F to 180F. They can handle a vacuum to 120 psi – so you need not worry about them leaking gas. Taprite Brand Two Pressure Regulator, Made in the USA [multiple carbonation levels and more]

taprite dual pressure regulator

Two Pressure Regulator by Taprite

More Info

Highlighted Features
  • AT PRESENT WE DO NOT SHIP TO CALIFORNIA
  • Tap two kegs at the same time and control the pressure to each
  • 0-60 gauges measure pressure to each keg
  • 0-3000 gauge measures CO2 in tank
  • Nonadjustable "shut down" blows off at 55-65 PSI

A two pressure regulator gives you the ability to keep kegs at different pressures.  This is a requirement to maintain two distinct carbonation levels.  It’s also handy if you want to force carbonate a keg more quickly, at a higher pressure, while maintaining your standard serving pressure on a keg that’s already being served or if you want to have a utility line for purging kegs and such.

Leland Mini Pin Lock CO2 Regulator – $39.99 + Hands on Review

Mini CO2 Regulator Kit - Pin Lock KEG961

Mini CO2 Regulator Kit – Pin Lock via MoreBeer

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

The mini-regulator may be the coolest product in our catalog under 1 lb as voted upon by MoreBeer! Staffers. Why so cool? The mini-reg features total portability with all the features of a full size regulator.

The regulator has a range of .5-1.5 bars which equates to 7-21 p.s.i.. This means that unlike the cheaper 16g chargers that shoot in CO2 at an indescriminate amount, the mini-reg allows you precisely dial in pressure and keep it there. It utilizes disposable 74 gram CO2 cartridges, which is the largest size that can be shipped full. One 74 gram cartridge will dispense 1-2 5 gallon kegs. Comes with regulator, one gas in Pin Lock quick disconnect and the associated hardware. 74 gram CO2 cartridges, KEG962 are available separately.

Mini Regulator Uses

Portable Serving: As an on-the-go regulator.

Backup – I’m out of CO2 and I want to pour a beer! Use as a backup if your main CO2 tank runs out.  Swap out the CO2 line for this regulator and you’ve got a temporary solution to keep you up and going until you can get more CO2.

Serve Beers at Alternate Carbonation Levels: This regulator goes up to 30 PSI.  That’s plenty to serve high carbonation beers like Hefeweizens and Belgians.  If you don’t have a dual or triple pressure setup, you could use this regulator to serve beers at higher pressures.  I would not suggest force carbonation with this unit.  The 74g cartridges would be pricey. You could carbonate using your existing regulator or just as easily naturally carbonate with priming sugar.  After the beer is completely carbonated, use this to serve at the higher pressure.
