Food Grade Buna-N Homebrew Keg LID O-Rings – from $1.30 Each

Their Buna-N option is FDA rated for food contact. Buna-N offers low permeability (even less than silicone) and similar to pricier EPDM. That means less oxygen ingress.

Valuebrew has struggled to keep items in stock and that’s been especially true of lid o-rings. As of this posting, these are in stock. A 10 pack is on sale for $12.99. That’s just $1.30 each.

Color Code Keg Post O-Rings for Easy Identification:

Valuebrew carries two color schemes to color keg posts. Doing this allows you to quickly identify keg posts. Gray and Black match standard keg QD colors. Blue and Green are meant to be remembered by “Blue for Beer” and “Green for Gas”. All options are made from FDA rated silicone. Since they work equally well on gas and liquid posts you can also mix and match to come up with your own color coding standard.

Keg Connection has a massive selection of faucet repair parts including diagrams to help you understand how things go together and figure out what you need.

Their “standard faucet” parts are for Taprite, Krome and other “standard” faucet designs. It can be tough to identify standard/generic faucets which it turn makes it difficult to source parts. If you faucet doesn’t have a marking and was sold as “standard” these are probably your best bet for replacement parts.

Bulk Keg QD Quick Disconnect Replacement O-Rings – Save Money, Buy in Bulk

Ball Lock and Pin Lock Keg QDs have an internal o-ring gasket that keeps liquid and gas from leaking out the top side.

I’ve found that it’s pretty easy to lose these.  Beyond that, they wear out and crack.  I’ve also had some that have gotten seated incorrectly and ended up becoming mis-formed so that they no longer sit properly.

Father’s Day Deal on… FDA Rated EPDM O-Rings from Valuebrew – Low Permeability, Less Oxygen & Off-Flavors

Valuebrew has announced the availability of bulk EPDM o-rings for homebrewers.  EPDM is a favorite of many pro brewers for certain applications. Until now, these have not been available to homebrewers, or at least easily available. EPDM has some real advantages over silicone. One of the big ones is a much lower permeability. That means they seal better and since they’re less porous they are more resistant to absorbing off-smells and off-flavors.

They are FDA Rated for food use and NSF61 certified. As of this posting, post, dip tube, lid and internal QD options are available in 10, 25 and 50 count options. Valuebrew has struggled mightily with availability and they’ve already made some indications of potential issues with new EPDM offerings. In particular, the lid o-ring description says they received a small shipment.

Food Safe Materials

The problem: At one point I had an o-ring manufacturer reach out to me that had found this resource while trying to do some market research.  This manufacturer suggested that many of the products that homebrewer’s use are made out of industrial grade materials that should not be in contact with food & beverage products.  These materials could potentially contain materials that are not meant to be ingested.

Okay, that’s a little concerning.  It was at this point that I added a section to that resource that talked about the issue.  I also started adding disclaimers to posts when I was unsure whether or not materials were food grade.

The next problem: For whatever reason, in my experience, it’s extremely difficult to find offerings that claim to be safe for food contact.  Maybe some of the o-rings that are available are food safe, but very few are actually labeled as such.
