Oxygen System w/Stainless Wand, Tubing and .5 Micron Stone – $59.99

Oxgenation System from William’s Brewing

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Why aerate your wort? Yeast needs oxygen to reproduce and produce strong cell walls. If the cell walls are weak, the yeast will have a low tolerance for alcohol, and can die before fully fermenting out the wort. Particularly in worts with starting gravities in excess of 1.050, this can contribute to long lag times, slow ferments, and higher than normal finishing gravities. Like an air stone in a fish tank provides oxygen for fish to breathe, wort aeration provides needed oxygen for yeast respiration and growth.

The advantage of the Oxygen Aeration System is that the wort can be aerated to 60% of its oxygen holding capacity in just 20 seconds, something that takes our Air Aeration System 5 minutes to accomplish. This shorter aeration means less foaming of the wort before pitching, an important consideration in higher gravity beers. This system includes a .5 micron aeration wand, for thorough oxygen dispersion.

Includes 22″ Aeration Wand with a .5 micron stainless aeration stone, 4′ of tubing, and an Oxygen Regulator for standard hardware store oxygen welding tanks. Pictured red oxygen bottle is not included, these disposable 1.4 and 2.1 ounce left hand thread bottles can be purchased at any hardware store in the welding or brazing section. One bottle will aerate 20 to 30 batches. Pictured glass carboy is not included.

Why buy a William’s Oxygen Aeration System? It has a 22″ U.S. made stainless wand, longer than any other system, so you can easily reach the bottom of a 5 or 6 gallon fermenter without dipping the plastic tubing into the wort.

Unlike other Oxygen Aeration Systems, which feature imported regulators and wands, all parts are made in U.S.A.

Includes oxygen regulator (made in the US) for use with disposable oxygen bottles (not included, typically found at local hardware stores), tubing, stainless steel wand and .5 micron aeration stone.

Oxyview Flow Meter [Assist with Wort Oxygenation]

61qi5gicbcl-_sx522_

Oxyview Flow Meter 1 3/8″ X 7/16″/0-3 L/M

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Oxyview is a pneumatic real-time oxygen flow meter for use with oxygen cylinders, concentrators and other oxygen delivery systems. This device can measure the flow rate of oxygen from 0-6 l/m. It can be attached at all times and used to assure and measure oxygen flow rate. No batteries are required for product operation. This unique flow meter works in any position and is resistant to heat, humidity and altitude.

Most regulators that homebrewers use for oxygenating wort are simple setups – Example – via MoreBeer.  They attach to disposable oxygen tanks (typically sourced from a local hardware store) and are little more than on and off valves.  No gauges, no pressure control (other than the degree to which you open and close the valve) and no flow control.

Time and rate give you an idea of how much oxygen you’re really adding to your wort.  Time is easy to track.  Rate, not so much, at least with typical homebrew O2 regulators.  If you want more or less oxygen for your next batch, it’s mostly a guessing game.

The Oxyview Flow Meter is a pneumatic (no electricity required) real-time oxygen flow meter that works in any position.  Flow rate is displayed in liters per minute.  This particular model has a range of 0 to 3 LPM.  This allows you to know what rate of oxygen is going into your wort.

I’ve used one of these for years and it has worked great for me.  Note that these are typically used for medical applications.  As such, the barb size isn’t what I’d call standard, at least by homebrewing standards. You will need to figure out tubing and connections to your existing regulator and aeration/oxygenation stone.

Oxygenation Kit: Stainless Wand, Regulator, Stone and More

NY Brew Supply O2-REG14-OIS-WAND Oxygenation Kit with Stainless Wand

NY Brew Supply O2-REG14-OIS-WAND Oxygenation Kit with Stainless Wand.  Includes: valve/regulator to attach to oxygen tank, 4Ft of silicone tubing, filter, stainless aeration wand with removable stone.

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

“Oxygenating your wort prior to pitching the yeast is a vital step in the brewing process that many brewers do not pay much attention to. Ideally your wort would have an oxygen level of 8 PPM (parts per million) however most brewers only achieve 2.5-4.5 PPM without using an aeration system. Using this wort aeration system you can easily achieve much higher oxygen levels by injecting pure o2! Regulator attaches directly to a disposable oxygen tank-NOT INCLUDED(available at most hardware stores) Using a wort aeration system will not only be far more safe than shaking your carboy around but will also contribute to lower final gravities, quicker fermentation, and a cleaner fermentation. Cleaning your aeration system is as easy as putting your air tubing and oxygen diffusion stone in your sanitized solution. Be sure to never handle the diffusion stone with your bare hands as natural skin oils can clog the stone’s pores. This deluxe kit comes with a 22″ long stainless aeration wand with stone, air/02 filter, 4ft of silicone tubing, and a brass valve/regulator to attach to your disposable oxygen tank.”

Oxygenation has made a noticeable difference in my fermentations.  Lag times are reduced and fermentation seems more vigorous.

The OxyWand™ Wort Oxygenation Kit – 0.5 Micron by MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Oxygenate your wort like the pros with the OxyWand Oxygenation kit! Insert the oxygenation wand into your fermenter and pump in thousands of microscopic oxygen bubbles for 1-2 minutes to improve the health of your yeast. Healthy yeast produce amazing flavors and have the stamina to completely finish fermentation.

That is not the only reason yeast love the OxyWand™. Yeast hate to compete with bacteria and you hate to drink them. Sintered stainless stones are made of tightly compressed stainless steel powder to create a porous block through which oxygen can flow. This micro maze is also the perfect environment for bacteria to live in after the stone has been used once in wort. That is why we love to boil our stones prior to use. The stone on the OxyWand™ is connected via a 1/4″ flare fitting and can easily be removed and cleaned after use and then boiled before your next brew day.

This OxyWand™ Oxygenation kit comes complete with adjustable brass oxygen regulator, Sanitary air filter, 4 ft of tubing, Instructions, and a 26″ long 0.5 Micron OxyWand™.

The advantage of using compressed oxygen to oxygenate is speed – you can oxygenate your wort in 60 seconds as opposed to 30-120 minutes with aeration. This .5 micron stone can only be used with compressed oxygen because an aeration pump does not supply enough pressure. If you are looking for an Oxywand to use with aeration pumps please see the 2 micron version.

MoreBeer Oxygenation System – $46.99 + Free Ship Eligible, Limited Availability

Oxygenation Kit via MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

This Oxygenation System pumps pure oxygen into your cooled wort using a disposable oxygen tank and stainless steel diffusion stone. Takes a mere 1-2 minutes of operation to achieve adequate oxygen levels. Comes with a regulator for disposable oxygen tank, sterile inline filter, our threaded .5 micron stainless steel oxygenation stone and tubing.

Yeast need oxygen to make good beer. The problem is that after boiling for an hour the wort is void of oxygen. Fermentations with low levels of oxygen will produce yeast that start slower, have sluggish ferments, and are more likely to poop-out and stop fermenting. On the contrary, fermentations that have been infused with oxygen will have healthier yeast that start faster, ferment faster, have a greater tolerance to alcohol, produce beers with less residual sugar, and produce better overall flavors.

Currently, the standard practice of getting oxygen to the yeast is to splash the wort as it enters the fermenter or to shake the fermenter once full. This practice is definitely better than nothing, however it is impossible to infuse enough oxygen by shaking or splashing and the air you do infuse is usually contaminated to some extent.

Please Note: Disposable Oxygen tank is Not Included. These are available at some hardware stores. Each disposable oxygen tank will last for approximately 10-15 five gallon batches.

About the inline filters: There are two sides to the filter – an “in” and an “out”. The direction you use doesn’t matter, however, you want to take note of which way you first push air through it and always keep it that way. There is an arrow on the edge of the filter housing that we use to keep the air flow going one direction when using it. The filter should never get wet, so don’t dunk it in sanitizer. If you want to clean the outside of it, use Alpet D2. To store the filter, use a little tinfoil on the “In” of the filter and store in a zip-lock bag.

Oxygen Regulator Features:

  • 1/4″ Barb Output
  • Max Delivery Pressure: 100 PSI
  • Max Flow Rate: 180 CFH
  • Regulator is Left Hand Thread
  • Stainless Steel Actuating Rod
  • Machined brass body with adjusting cap, piston and hose connection

Oxygenation has made a noticeable difference in my fermentations.  Lag times are reduced and fermentation seems more vigorous.

This setup gets you an oxygen tank regulator, tubing an inline sterile filter and a .5 micron oxygenation stone.  Add an oxygen tank (from your local hardware store) to this and you’re good to go.

Oxygen System w/Stainless Wand, Tubing and .5 Micron Stone – $54.99
