Brew Tapper Dual Scale Refractometer with ATC

Brew Tapper Dual Scale Refractometer with ATC | Brix & Specific Gravity | Best for Beer & WineDual Scale Refractometer. Brix (0-32%) and Specific Gravity (1.000-1.130).  Features ATC (automatic temperature compensation).  Includes Brew Tapper Refractometer, calibration screwdriver, 3ml pipette, instructions and a lens cleaning cloth.

For me, getting a refractometer was one of those upgrades that made a lot of difference.  With a refractometer you need a sample size of two drops.  I figured that this would pay for itself in beer savings alone.  I also had just broken my hydrometer and came to the realization that hydrometers are made of breakable glass that can break! 🙂

With the aid of calculators – get a Free Non-Expiring Brewfather Trial Account –  Refractometers can be used to measure gravity throughout the brewing process.

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Beer brewing refractometer. This hand-held optical refractometer measures the density of sugars in the solution and gives you an instant gravity readings at any point during the boil, or run off from the mash. You do not need to convert the reading from Brix to specific gravity or do an adjustments for temperature. Great for quick and frequent check on the gravity of your running or while sparging, and also for those who do not like to deal with the temperature compensation necessary with a hydrometer. Unlike a hydrometer, it only requires a very small amount sample, about 2-3 drops of sample only.
This refractometer is specifically created for brewing of BEER but it can also be great for:
Fruits, vegetables & grasses:
Monitor and control sugar concentrations in foods, beverages, crops and plants, checking the “ripeness”of fruit in the field and verifying product quality after harvesting and/or controlling concentrations during processing and packaging to ensure product quality
Wine or beer:
Use Brix readings to get wort sugars and help determine finished alcohol readings (, best use in conjunction with a hydrometer)
Metalworking fluids
Helps in maintenance of CNC coolants and water soluble drawing & stamping compounds and commonly used for controlling the concentration of various industrial fluids like cutting lubricants and flux rinsing compounds The need to consult temperature correction charts is eliminated with the built-in 10-30°C ATC. The unit also comes with a manual calibration knob that is secured with a lock nut and has a brighter display than the more narrow range refractometers. One of the popular instrument with many homebrewers!
Measuring Range:
0~ 32% Brix Scale
1.000 ~ 1.130 Wort Specific Gravity
Accuracy:±0.2% Brix ±0.001 Wort Specific Gravity
Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): 10°C~30°C (50°F~86°F)

Hands on Review: Milwaukee MA871 Digital Refractometer

This review is by Homebrew Finds Contributor Brad Probert.  Brad is an engineer, expert homebrewer and experienced reviewer.  Grab a link to Brad’s website at the end of this review.

Those floating glass bobbers seem cool when you start homebrewing. They make you feel like you’re doing something complicated and sophisticated with your test tubes and fine crafted thin-glass instrument, and have a cool name- hydrometer. Then you break it. Oh well, bound to happen eventually, right? So you buy another one, and it eventually meets its doom, too. Soon, you start to do the math on the attrition rate, and figure out how long before you’d pay for a refractometer and you make that step.
