Proflow Dynamics has an extensive selection of homebrew gear, fittings and disconnects anchored by their lineup of Stainless Steel Camlock QDs.

More About ProFlow Dynamics

Camlock QDs at PFD!  I’ve used ProFlow Dynamics Quick Disconnects on my kettles, mash tun, pumps and tubing for a longtime.  They have worked great for me.  I put male connectors kettles, mash tuns and pumps and use female connectors for tubing.  Standardizing on this (or the opposite) means you can use tubing as jumpers and always have the availability to connect your gear.

These are made from Stainless Steel and are available in lots of configurations.  Those are classified by Type and Size.  Type may mean something in “commercial cam lock fitting circles”, but I was initially confused by this.  Types are akin to model numbers.  For example, Type A is Female NPT to Male Cam and Groove.

  • Generally Great Prices: ProFlow already has generally great prices.  Some of the best everyday prices for fittings, QDs, ball locks & more
  • 15% Off Coupon: BREW15% takes an additional 15% off their lineup of homebrewing gear.
  • Another 10% Off: Using any link in this post will save you another 10%!

MoreBeer Stainless Steel Inline Thermometer w/Disconnects – $54.95 + Hands on Review, Limited Availability

morebeer inline stainless thermometer

Inline stainless thermometer from MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

You likely want to monitor the temperature of your wort as it moves from the chiller to the fermenter, and now you can do just that with this In-Line Thermometer. This high quality thermometer features stainless steel quick disconnects for easy installation in line with the rest of your brewing system, and many users install it on the “out” side of their convoluted heat exchangers and counterflow chillers.

As the wort runs through the body of the in-line thermometer it runs across the 2-inch thermometer probe, giving an instant and incredibly accurate reading of its exact temperature. Ryan Barto, our Fulfillment Operations Manager and also the thermometer’s inventor, says that this handy device will help you to keep better control of your mash temperatures, and makes it easier to transfer your wort to your conical through the counterflow chiller.

Pair of Beer & Gas Tubing Quick Disconnects with Shutoff – $11.95, Limited Availability

Beer & Gas Quick Connect - In-Line Set (With Shut-Off) H550

Beer & Gas Quick Connect – In-Line Set (With Shut-Off) from MoreBeer

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Use these high quality, food-grade quick-disconnects on your gas and beer tubing lines. Uses might include the following:

  • On a gas system to unhook your tank and regulator from your manifold so you take it with you.
  • On a beer line to easily switch between ball lock, pin-lock, or a commercial tap
  • On a counter-pressure bottle filler to be able to easily connect to your existing gas line.

This plastic quick disconnect set features 1/4″ barb which can be used with tubing ID 3/16″ through 5/16″. The quick disconnect functionality is activated by a shrouded thumb latch. The temperature range is -40F to 180F. They can handle a vacuum to 120 psi – so you need not worry about them leaking gas. The internal valve spring is 316 type stainless steel and the o-ring is food grade buna-n.

These quick disconnects have an integrated shut off valve.  When you disconnect them valves engage so beer or CO2 don’t continue to flow.  I use similar disconnects for the CO2 side of my kegerator.  They also work on the liquid side.  These are food grade.

Hands On Review: More Beer Stainless Steel Quick Disconnects

In the process of giving More Beer’s Inline Thermometer a try, I was also able to try out their line of stainless steel quick disconnects.  The lineup includes MPT (male and female) and barbed versions.

Four variations

A look inside

They line is designed to seal well with flow in either direction.  In brewing applications they will work at up to 60 PSI.

I found these to be solid and really well made.  I like the fact that I could disengage the QD with one hand.  If you’re looking for a QD system these are a solid choice.

It’s also worth mentioning that replacement orings/gaskets are available for these – Here

Hands On Review: More Beer’s Inline Thermometer + Whirlpool Chiller Time Trial

Here’s a look at MoreBeer’s inline thermometer setup.  This is an all stainless setup, with stainless quick disconnects that allows you to place a thermometer inline at any point in your system.

The heart of this unit is a Fermentap Dial Thermometer

Top View.  You can see the all stainless construction and the stainless quick disconnects

Thermometer Calibration Screw

I found the inline thermometer to be well built.  It also served it’s purpose well.  It allows you to check the temperature at a specific point in your process.  I think because liquid is moving past this thermometer, you’re getting a great picture of what the temperature actually is at any given point.

I used this to monitor my chill progress.  Video…

My apologies that this video is a bit shaky at points.  You can watch it for 9 minutes and 12 seconds or just realize that it took 9 minutes and 12 seconds to get to pitching temp.

My batch was about 5.25 Gallons.  It took 9 minutes and 12 seconds to get to 68 degrees.  Add a couple more seconds on from turning the hose on to starting the video.  Ground water temp was 57.7 degrees.  I’d say those are dandy results.

Results will vary based on groundwater temp.  In my initial trials, I was able to get 5.25 gallons of boiling water down to pitching temp in 5 minutes.  Of course, water is easier to chill than wort.

My setup is a 50′ copper immersion chiller (similar to this one) with a recirculation arm along with a this high flow March pump.

Making a Utility CO2 Line Using Luer Lock Disconnects

Part of Our Homebrew Tips and Tricks Series.  Check out the complete list – Homebrewing Tips, Tricks & Shortcuts! This is a Top Post! See: All Top Posts

What are Luer Lock Disconnects?

Luer Locks are a generally inexpensive and effective disconnect system.  I think these are typically used in the healthcare industry, Luer Locks provide a solid, pressure capable connection with a quick twist.

Valved/Quick Disconnects vs Disconnects

Luer Lock connectors are not what I would call “quick disconnects” meaning that they are not valved to allow easy disengagement while pressure is turned on.  You need to turn off CO2 pressure to disengage these.

Tip: If you’re using these for kegs, disconnect the ball lock gas QD before you disconnect your Luer Lock.  This will prevent the keg from emptying itself of CO2.

A Hybrid Approach

Of course you could use all valved QDS or all Luer Locks in your kegerator setup.  I use a hybrid approach.

Valved QDs for most of my keg lines and Luer Locks to operate a “utility” CO2 line.  One of my CO2 lines has a female Luer Lock on it.  I have a selection of attachments that consist of: The attachment, 5 inches or so of CO2 line and a male Luer Lock.

With this setup I can easily swap out more specialized attachments that I don’t typically need to be hooked up all the time.  Since Luer Locks are generally cheap, this setup saves a good bit of money vs and entirely valved QD approach.

Pro Flow Dynamics – 10% Off For HBF Readers!

I’m considering the purchase of a Blichmann TopTier brewing setup and a March Pump.  In the process I’ve looked at several different disconnect options for the tubing to connect all of this together.

I stumbled across Pro Flow Dyamics Cam and Groove Stainless Steel Coupling system.  These are discussed in depth on some of the forums.  Including here.  A (very) long story shortened- these appear to be high quality stainless disconnects at a great price.

In the process of communicating about these with Pro Flow Dynamics, they generously offered a 10% discount to Homebrew Finds readers.
