I’ve actually been looking for something like this in a while. A small piece of EVABarrier works, but having something that’s a uniform size and rigid will be very nice for certain applications. A couple applications that quickly come to mind… secondary inline regulator on a keg or flow control fitting on a keg.

I posted about these from MoreBeer a few days back and they sold out in short order. If you look at the quick view of this listing, it shows the same Kegland part numbers as MoreBeer shows KL18012 and they’re actually cheaper as of this posting.

This rigid joiner is made from strong polypropylene. It’s useful to make rigid joins with push in fittings that are dead straight. Although it’s possible to make joins using short pieces of 8mm OD EVABarrier tubing, when mounting parts to a gas board or wall it will often make things much neater if you use these instead. The 50mm length is long enough so even after pushing right into two Duotight 8mm fittings on both ends, you should still have an exposed length of about 3mm so you can still easily take the fittings apart later.

Troubleshooting DuoTight Fitting and EVABarrier Tubing Leaks

Leaks? Troubleshooting EVABarrier/DuoTight Leaks

I’ve done several pressure tests with DuoTight Fittings and EVABarrier Tubing. Each test has proven the tested components were leak free. Having said that, it’s entirely possible that you’ll have a leak. This happens with any tubing system, that’s why we… check for leaks. Some tips…

  • Check for leaks as you would if you were using standard tubing. DuoTights and EVABarrier are amazing… but not magic. They need to be installed correctly and securely throughout your system. Liquid liquids are easy to spot. Gas leaks are a little more difficult.
  • I highly suggest picking up a DuoTight Pressure Gauge. You can easily add this to your setup and use this technique for checking for gas leaks.
  • If you have a section of EVABarrier tubing that’s marred or damaged, cut off a couple inches to get a fresh end.
  • Make sure you’re pushing the EVABarrier Tubing completely in to your DuoTight Fitting.
  • Make sure you’re pulling your EVABarrier Tubing out firmly to engage the sealing mechanism.
  • DuoTight Compatible Locking Clips – I recommend using these on all DuoTight connections. They snap into place pushing the collar out, securely engaging the fitting. They also help prevent bumps and moves from disengaging the connection.
  • If you have a particular fitting that won’t seal… contact the seller or manufacturer to get a replacement. A leaking DuoTight fitting is not normal and I’m guessing your retailer will take care of you. Out of the dozens of fittings I have I’ve had 1 that was non-functional on receipt.

Sanitizing DuoTight Fittings – Star San & DuoTights?

I’ve gotten some feedback when it comes to DuoTights and Star San.  The materials used in DuoTight fittings – Acetal, EPDM, Stainless – are generally compatible with Star San. However that doesn’t mean that you can soak DuoTights in Star San endlessly.

Star Stan could eventually damage DuoTights (and lots of other things) given excessive exposure. Damaged fittings = potential leaks. Contact time for Star San is five minutes. That’s about how long you should leave a part sitting in Star San.

The LinkTech 60PS Series is a lineup of premium plastic Quick Disconnects. These High Quality QDs are made from Food Grade Udel® Polysulfone, a high-strength plastic that is temperature tolerant past boiling (280° Max!), and can handle pressure ranging from a vacuum to 125 psi. This 8mm Duotight compatible regulator with 0-60 PSI gauge fits 8mm outer diameter EvaBarrier tubing. Suitable for gas, all components are food grade. The included gauge is accurate to plus or minus 6 PSI.

Note: This unit comes with a 0-60 PSI gauge that is only ¾” in diameter. If you intend to use this regulator in the 10 to 30 PSI range, you will need to order optional gauge C93, which reads 0-30 PSI. Below 10 psi, this regulator is not very accurate. You will also need EvaBarrier tubing to connect this regulator, either our item number Z91 or Z92.

This is perfect for reducing the pressure of one gas line in a draft system – for example, with a single regulator and C02 bottle, you can set the pressure at the C02 bottle with the larger regulator (not included) and then put this regulator inline to reduce the pressure. Handy for when you want to carbonate one keg at 25 PSI and dispense another at 10 PSI.

This combo includes 2 ball lock QDs.  Both are equipped with 1/4 MFL.  The gas QD has an integrated check valve.  This keeps beer from backflowing into your gas lines.  That’s handy in any installation, but I specifically recommend this style of gas QD for DuoTight Installations as they allow you to skip inline check fittings and really clean up your setup.  See my DuoTight Review for more on that.

This sturdy food grade polypropylene board features drilled holes for up to 4 Duotight Regulators (item C11). Drilled mounting holes are also included so that once you mount the regulators and DuoTight fittings/tubing to the board, you can also install the board in a convenient location. Also included are cutout boxes so you can line up 4 labels above the regulators.

Note that pictured regulators, screws, Duotight fittings, labels, and EvaBarrier tubing are not included. This is just a base board. 12″ wide, 10.25″ tall, and 3/8″ thick.
