Kegland’s DuoTight system along with their EVABarrier Tubing are amazing. Check out my extensive hands on review for a deep dive into the system.
This is a look at Kegland Rigid Joiners, part number KL18012.
These are designed to easily join DuoTight fittings together without using EVABarrier tubing. That’s handy for close connections and if… gasp, you aren’t a DuoTight/EVABarrier user. The rigid joiners allow you to put DuoTight parts and pieces together without purchasing an entire roll of EVABarrier.
Rigid Joiners, part number KL18012. To my knowledge these are available in 8mm only. I’d venture a guess that this is the most common size.

Hands on Review Blichmann Engineering Riptide Pump
In the world of hot wort pumps for homebrewing, there are a couple of big name players that have dominated the market for some time. There are also some new entries in this segment that offer just as good function, but at a much lower price. Blichmann came in with a completely different strategy. Rather than trying to do the same thing better, or the same thing for less money, they wanted to re-write expectations for what a homebrew pump should do. It’s like the first time you saw a BBQ grill that had lights to cook at night and a built-in bottle opener. You told yourself, “Wow, I didn’t know you could get one like that… I want one!”
As with anything Blichmann makes, the Riptide follows suit with top-notch quality and looks, and a price tag to remind you that you’re buying top of the line. In the case of this pump, they legitimately bring features that no other pump on the market has and at a price comparable to the current top of the line wort pumps (that don’t have these features). So it’s arguably reasonably priced.

These fittings adapter BSP to NPT fittings. NPT is very common in North America. BSP seems to be more common overseas. It’s very similar to NPT and sometimes compatible depending on the application. A lot of Kegland gear features BSP fittings. Search MoreBeer for BSP to get an idea of what uses BSP threads.

This sale includes the pictured gas ball lock QD with check valve. These are marked down to just $3.99. That’s a whopping 56% off list.
The gas QD has an integrated check valve. This keeps beer from backflowing into your gas lines. That’s handy in any installation, but I specifically recommend this style of gas QD for DuoTight Installations as they allow you to skip inline check fittings and really clean up your setup. See my DuoTight Review for more on that.

Brass Hose Fittings – Quick Disconnect (QD) Set from MoreBeer
More Info
From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:
Quick Disconnects are a favorite among homebrewers for their ability to quickly move from one configuration to another.
With the Brass Quick Disconnect Set you can easily connect and disconnect your water line to various equipment. These QD’s must be placed in a configuration where water is always exiting the female portion of the QD and entering the male portion of the QD. For example the Female threads x Female QD portion is placed on the end of the hose while the Male QD portion is connected to your equipment.
This set includes one Male GHT (Garden Hose Thread) x Male QD and one Female GHT x Female QD.
We sell several adapter pieces that allow you convert GHT to male or female 1/2 inch pipe thread or 1/2 inch hose barb, making it a snap mount these QDs on just about any piece in your brewery.
Please Note: This product will NOT work with our Stainless Steel or Plastic Quick Disconnects.
Quick disconnects make connecting and disconnecting things on brew day easier. I have QDs (a different brand) on every hose connection I use on brew day, including sprayers and my wort chiller.

After well over a year of evaluating, I splurged recently and got a Spike Conical (the CF5). I’ve seen quite a few others going through this debate period, so I wanted to provide a hot take to help others in their own decision making process. So far I’ve assembled and prepped it for my first brews, but haven’t actually used it yet. Most of the points here will be about equipment quality/features rather than practice.
For context; I added on the temp control bundle with heater, leg extensions, casters, extended bracing shelf, and a few other nice to haves. So some of these will cover things that aren’t part of the “core” conical package.

CIP (Clean in Place) Spray Balls are generally used for vessels that are too large to move. Since they’re too large to move you… clean them in place. If you have a larger setup, you could incorporate these into your system or routine to help clean your vessels more easily.

You may have a hard time finding a more affordable counter flow wort chiller. For the homebrewer on a budget, these heat exchangers are one the fastest ways to chill wort. Similar in efficiency to the Chillout plate chiller, but much easier to clean. Plate chillers have the disadvantage of getting gunked up in their small crevasses due to trapped hop material. This unit, on the other hand, can be easily and effectively flushed after use.
Copper is a great conductor of heat, making it more efficient than a stainless chiller of similar design. These units are 9″ in diameter and about 7″ high. The input and output are approximately 3/8″ outer diameter (9.5 mm). They can be used with gravity, but we recommend using a pump.
Check out the video below to learn how to set up the chiller with Duotight fittings (DUO115 & DUO116) that will allow you to attach Camlock, QD, or garden hose fittings to the inputs and outputs, and enable you to control the flow rate at the water inlet.
Fittings not included.

I’ve done several pressure tests with DuoTight Fittings and EVABarrier Tubing. Each test has proven the tested components were leak free. Having said that, it’s entirely possible that you’ll have a leak. This happens with any tubing system, that’s why we… check for leaks. Some tips…
Check for leaks as you would if you were using standard tubing. DuoTights and EVABarrier are amazing… but not magic. They need to be installed correctly and securely throughout your system. Liquid liquids are easy to spot. Gas leaks are a little more difficult.
If you have a section of EVABarrier tubing that’s marred or damaged, cut off a couple inches to get a fresh end.
Make sure you’re pushing the EVABarrier Tubing completely in to your DuoTight Fitting.
Make sure you’re pulling your EVABarrier Tubing out firmly to engage the sealing mechanism.
DuoTight Compatible Locking Clips – I recommend using these on all DuoTight connections. They snap into place pushing the collar out, securely engaging the fitting. They also help prevent bumps and moves from disengaging the connection.
If you have a particular fitting that won’t seal… contact the seller or manufacturer to get a replacement. A leaking DuoTight fitting is not normal and I’m guessing your retailer will take care of you. Out of the dozens of fittings I have I’ve had 1 that was non-functional on receipt.
DuoTight Compatible Locking Clips
Valuebrew’s DuoTight Compatible Locking Clips are a great addition to any DuoTight setup. These snap into the collar of DuoTight Fittings and lock connections in place. This makes the connection more secure and reduces the chances of leakage.
These are available in both 8mm and 9.5mm sizes
Sanitizing DuoTight Fittings – Star San & DuoTights?
I’ve gotten some feedback when it comes to DuoTights and Star San. The materials used in DuoTight fittings – Acetal, EPDM, Stainless – are generally compatible with Star San. However that doesn’t mean that you can soak DuoTights in Star San endlessly.
Star Stan could eventually damage DuoTights (and lots of other things) given excessive exposure. Damaged fittings = potential leaks. Contact time for Star San is five minutes. That’s about how long you should leave a part sitting in Star San.
From HBF: Make sure the components you use are compatible and rated for your intended application. Contact manufacturer with questions about suitability or a specific application. Always read and follow manufacturer directions.
Of course you could use these fittings in lots of different applications. One possible application is a Spunding Valve build. A Spunding Valve [See: Spunding Valve Resource Post] allows you to ferment under pressure, naturally and precisely carbonate in the keg, fix over-carbonated beers and more. A similar (different manufacturer and possibly specs) fitting and barb are featured in our “Cheapest” Spunding Valve Build Option
