Pinter Beer Machine… What do you think??

The Pinter is an all in one brew and draft serving machine.  It has a 1.5 gallon/12 pint capacity. Pinter sells “Pinter Pack” recipes, but I don’t see why you couldn’t use your own recipe.

Pinter’s website outlines a 3 step process.

  1. Make – Mix your brewing ingredients and water. Leave to brew for 4-7 days.
  2. Chill – Refrigerate for 3+ days, naturally carbonating and developing the beer.
  3. Enjoy – Tap delicious fresh draft beer directly from the Pinter – no need to bottle or keg.

I see a few issues with those steps.

Leaving it to “brew” for 4 to 7 days? Brewing = boiling so I’m thinking they meant ferment there. Guessing that’s not a mistake but on over simplification for potential customers.

Chill for 3+ days and naturally carbonate? If we’re chilling we’re probably not doing much naturally carbonating.

If you add 4 days of (brewing) with 3 days of (chilling/carbonating) then that would lead one to believe that you could be drinking a beer in as little as 7 days. Is that possible.

It looks like these use no boil kits. That’s not necessarily a horrible thing, in fact MoreBeer has recently released a line of Flash Brewing no boiling kits.

Initially I was pretty critical of this setup, but after thinking about it, maybe that’s unfair. Maybe this is modernized and improved Mr Beer sort of thing. For as many faults as Mr Beer has or had, it’s probably a great thing for homebrewing. An affordable and non-intimidating way to try homebrewing.

What do you think?
