The Thermapen ONE is a great thermometer!  It has one second response times, backlit auto rotating display, it’s waterproof and… more. It’s great for brew day, when you BBQ and around the kitchen. Check out my in depth Hands on Review for lots more.

For years Thermapen products that appeared on Amazon were sold by (according to ThermoWorks) unauthorized sellers. They warned of potential fakes, customer service and warranty issues.

Tips for Finding Bulk Malt Deals on Amazon

Offerings and prices can vary wildly on malt via Amazon, but it’s worth a look when it comes time to buy grain. Periodically some great deals have appeared.

Look at Total Cost

Price per lb delivered to your door is the most important thing when it comes to value. Biting on a low cost sack of grain with high shipping is equally as bad as biting on a high cost sack of grain with free shipping. Compare total cost. If free or flat rate shipping is an option always makes sure to put together an order that qualifies for discounted shipping.

I use two bus tubs [Note: Mine are a different model, manufacturer and specs] on brew day and I find them invaluable.  I keep one below my March Pump setup.  It catches drips and also offers a place to store wet items such as stirring spoons, mash paddles, my mash stirring whisk and my equally invaluable 1 gallon pitchers.  I reserve the other tub for clean and dry items.  Having two of these helps me keep dry/clean and wet/dirty items separate and means less lugging stuff around on brew day.  They’re also handy for catching drips from drying gear and general storage.

I use a similar pump (different manufacturer, features and specifications) for a recirculating draft line cleaning setup.  Note that fittings sizes are different on this pump vs the one I use in that build.  Adjust accordingly  Another possible homebrewing application would be to set this up for use a part of a recirculating wort chiller setup.

Note from HBF: One difference between Pin Lock and Ball Lock kegs is the type of lids that come with each.  Ball Locks, generally, have a manual PRV valve, while Pin Locks do not.  Ball Lock style lids are, in my opinion, superior because the manual PRV allows you to easily vent your keg as needed.  The good news is that, for standard kegs, the lids are the same size and can be interchanged.  That means you can use a Ball Lock style lid in a Pin Lock Keg.
