The Chillzilla counterflow wort chiller is one of the quickest, easiest and most effective wort chillers on the market today! It has several unique features that set it apart from lesser chillers. First is its compact, heavy-duty copper construction which equals one tough unit with excellent thermal qualities that allow heat to be easily exchanged from hot wort to cold water. A 5 gallon batch can be cooled to ale pitching temperatures in 10 minutes or less, depending on chilling water temperatures.
In addition to its tough copper construction, Chillzilla includes a tube-in-tube design, where cold water flows through the outer tube in one direction, while hot wort flows through a twisted inner copper tube in the opposite direction. The twisted inner tube creates more turbulence in the cold water, which maximizes chilling, and the shape increases hot wort surface area, allowing wort to be chilled faster.
The Chillzilla also uses very little water, yet is quite effective at doing its job! Compact in size, measuring just 10 inches from the top of the coil to bottom and having a diameter of 6 inches, means that the Chillzilla can be mounted practically anywhere that is convenient! The all metal construction allows sanitation to be accomplished by boiling, heating or use of traditional sanitizers such as Star-San. You’ve never truly chilled until you’ve chilled with the Chillzilla!
NOTE: While it is possible to gravity feed the Chillzilla, using a brew pump like a RipTide brewing pump is highly recommended.
