This now iconic recipe comes from the late homebrewing legend—and our dear friend—Mike “Tasty” McDole. Mike is one of the best homebrewers we’ve ever known, and one of our original customers way back when the entire MoreBeer! operation fit inside a storage shed. Aside from brewing many award-winning beers, Tasty helped grow homebrewing as a hobby, and as a community, here in the Bay Area and well beyond.

From MoreBeer… “Beer lovers rejoice! Vinnie from Russian River Brewing Co. has released his Consecration recipe to us, and we’re very proud to be able to offer it to the homebrewing community. Consecration is a sour dark ale aged in a Cabernet Sauvignon barrel. It is aged for 4 to 8 months with currants and brettanomyces. You can look for rich flavors of chocolate truffle, spice, tobacco, currants, and a bit of Cabernet.
What sets this kit apart from any other kit out there, is the fact that we include a chunk of an actual consecration barrel in each one! Whether or not the bacteria from the original beer will form their own colony in your beer is hard to prove right or wrong. Either way, we think it is pretty cool!”
Insulated Cooler Mash Tun | Hot Liquor Tank | 14 gal.
More Info
From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:
If you’re ready to step up to all grain brewing, this converted insulated cooler works wonders as a mash tun! The 14-gallon size can hold upwards of 25 lbs of grain, so there’s plenty of room for even the strongest 5-gallon beer recipes and is perfect for most 10 gallon batches up to 1.070 SG. Comes pre-assembled with stainless steel perforated false bottom, high temperature silicone tubing, and 1/2″ female threaded ball valve. Pair the valve with the male threaded fitting (plus a little plumber’s tape) that best suits your setup and you’ll off and running.
The cooler also works perfectly as a Hot Liquor Tank. Use with the false bottom in place, or simply remove it and keep it on hand in case you decide to use the cooler as a Mash Tun down the road. Two of these coolers plus the Fermentap Sparge Arm Assembly work perfectly as a gravity fed all-grain setup. To connect the cooler’s ball valve to the sparge arm assembly, we recommend a 1/2″ MPT x 3/8″ Barb fitting and 3/8″ ID silicone tubing. Plumber’s tape will ensure you have a leak-proof connection between the barb fitting and the ball valve.
Includes:
Insulated beverage cooler
Max Volume: 14.7 Gal (56 L)
Stainless dome-shaped perforated false bottom
High temperature silicone tubing
Stainless 1/2″ BSP ball valve
External Dimensions: Approx. 19″ L x 19″ W x 22″ H
KegLand Part Number: KL04671

More About Magnum
Description
Note: Due to a shift in the industry, US Magnum has become very scarce. German Magnum is readily available and is a direct substitute.
Magnum is a great bittering hop with an aroma similar to a strong Willamette. It therefore works well with Willamette, Fuggles, and British Kent Goldings when used as an aroma hop in later boil additions. Magnum makes an incredibly useful bittering agent in just about any beer, and due to its very smooth bitterness, you can really use as much as you want.
Hop Statistics: Alpha Acids: 10.0 – 14.0% Beta Acids: 4.5 – 7.0% Alpha-Beta Ratio: 1.43 – 3.11 Cohumulone: (% of alpha acids): 24 – 30% Total Oils in mls per 100 grams dried: 1.9 – 3.0 Similar Hop Varieties: Nugget, Columbus, Horizon

Kegland’s Draft Line Cleaning Pump is a single hand operated pump that attaches to a tee. The tee takes a hand pump and ball lock carbonation cap which connects to a dip tube. This hardware has some alternate uses that this review will also explore.
In true Kegland style this setup is innovative, packed with some surprising features and well priced. Here’s a hands on look.
Limited Time DEAL!
William’s has launched a fall clearance sale that discounts a large selection of items by up 60%. No coupon or promo code is required. Check William’s for current selection and availability.
This is currently available via via William’s Brewing and MoreBeer – the offerings are slightly different. See the breakdown of different options and separate components toward the end of this review.
Bag o’ stuffThis is what you get with the basic pump. Tee, carbonation cap, pump and dip tube.I installed this on a 2L bottle. You’ll notice the carbonation cap has changed colors. I used one I already had (Kegland brand, just a different color), because I already has a dip tube trimmed to size and installed from a recent update to My Simple Draft Line Flushing Build.I decided to try and clean two draft lines with this pump to really test it. Here’s the key piece of hardware to clean two ball lock lines at the same time. It’s a Ball Lock Jumper from Valuebrew. There are only a couple similar offerings out there, to my knowledge. This one is unique because it uses their custom color, food grade post o-rings AND… it works with both liquid and ball lock jumpers. Here it is installed. This is connecting two 10′ EVABarrier tubing runs.Complete test setup
The plumbing for my test is as follows
Kegland Ball Lock Cleaning Pump (on left) >
Ball Lock Line Jumper – 2 ball lock QDs with a short length of EVABarrier tubing >
Ball Lock QD Installed on the pump assemblyIt’s a little difficult to see but… it works. With some pumping, I got a slow steady stream of liquid. Keep in mind this is cleaning two 10′ lines at the same time.William’s Brewing has a package that gets you the pump + a large 2.5 liter growler and BLC. They also sell the standalone pump kit. I actually purchased everything separately because I wanted a full case of these growlers.
Use it for.. Portable Serving!
Add on a ball lock faucet and you’ve got a portable serving keg without paying for expensive CO2 cartridges. Before you email me/comment/etc… yes this will cause oxidation, I would not suggest this as a long term solution. Only for the occasion that you and your friends will be able to drink an entire growler in an evening. Oxidation won’t have enough time to become a factor. Use another solution for longer term applications.
Use it for… Mini Pressure Fermenter
Remove the tee, add a 2.5L PET Bottle and a Spunding Valve to convert this into a pressure capable mini fermenter. You could potentially do 2 liter batches. Not ideal, but a great way to play around with pressure fermentation at an unbeatable price. See: Fermenting Under Pressure for more on the topic.
Convert it to a Mini-Keg For Your Kegerator!
Replace the pump with another carbonation cap, use a 2.5 liter bottle and… you have a 2.5 liter keg you can use in your kegerator!
Conclusions
This collection of economical hardware is extremely versatile. As far as a cleaning pump goes, it works well, but, I prefer my own draft line flushing build. That’s very similar but replaces pumping with a quick shot of CO2. That’s less work. Having said that, you get a lot of equipment and capability with this setup. If you’re looking to build my flushing assembly, I suggest buying the Kegland cleaning setup and another carbonation cap. That gives you a ton of flexibility. Line cleaner, mini fermenter, party pump and ball lock mini keg. Overall, this is another win for Kegland, innovative, packed with features and well priced.

More About Azacca
Azacca is a new hop from Washington that has great aromatic qualities making it great at late or dry hop additions. The aroma has sustained citrus and mango notes with a little orchard fruit. The high myrcene fraction makes this hop great in IPAs. Also with its high acid content, Azacca can be used at the start of a boil to great affect.

Citra® is currently one of the most sought after hops among craft and home brewers for their intense citrus aroma and flavor. Grapefruit and lime aromas along with gooseberry, passion fruit, and lychee notes. Currently one of the top choices for late hop additions or dry hopping when you want to make that ultimate hop bomb IPA or Pale Ale. Citra® also has a fairly high alpha acid content making it a good choice for bittering IPAs, Pales, and American Ales. Supply has been limited in the industry but MoreBeer! loved this hop from day one and bought a lot of it years ago on contract.

There have been some exciting new offerings over the last five years or so in the homebrewing fermenter market. With loads of offerings from companies like Spike, Ss Brewtech, Blichmann Engineering, Kegland, as well as from a product line called BrewBuilt developed by MoreBeer, a home brewer has a lot to choose from when considering upgrading or replacing an existing fermenter. One of the features that is becoming more common on new fermenter offerings is the ability hold pressure, either to enable pressure transfers or to allow fermenting under pressure – both of which enable low-oxygen brewing along with other advantages. If a brewer wanted to upgrade to a pressure fermenter there are a range of prices and options to consider. For those who want to try pressure fermentation before investing many hundreds or even thousands of dollars, thankfully there are some excellent newer plastic options that perform the job admirably.
Kegland is a noticeable leader in the pressurized fermenters market. With their line of FermZilla fermenters, a brewer can experiment with pressure fermentation without investing a ton of money to see if this method fits into their brewing operations. I have been a satisfied user of the FermZilla All Rounder fermenter for nearly three years now. Before that I was using a Chronical from Ss Brewtech. While both have their advantages, forced to choose between the two I would choose the All Rounder for its flexibility, cost, and higher pressure rating (the Chronical only held a few psi to allow for transfers). One thing that the Chronical has that the All Rounder is missing is the ability to dump trub and collect yeast. Thankfully there is another option from Kegland that combines the flexibility of the All Rounder with the trub and yeast management of a conical fermenter.
