More about Citra Cryo Hops

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

  • Unanimously loved as a late addition or dry hop in Hazys, West Coast IPAs, Pale Ales, and other hop-forward styles
  • Aroma Profile: Citrus, Stone Fruit, Tropical, Woody
  • Alpha Acids: 21.0 – 28.0%
  • Cryo Hop® Hop Pellets
  • Higher AA and nearly twice the resin content of traditional T-90 hop pellets
  • Increase yield by reducing vegetal matter in your brewhouse and fermenter

Cryo Hops® provide brewers with the ability to get gigantic hop character while reducing astringent and unpleasant vegetal flavors. With a substantially higher oil and resin content, LupuLN2 powder offers up all the flavor and aroma of a heavily hopped beer, but with a significanly reduced grassy character. Additionally, the lower dosage rate of the concentrated powder reduces the volume of trub and therefore, kettle loss. Using Cryo Hops® you will net more beer that is clearer!

Typical usage of Cryo Hops® would be roughly 50% of pellets. LupuLN2 powder can be used in any application where traditional hop products are utilized, including: Bittering, Kettle, Whirlpool and even direct to the fermentor.  It is suggested that you use Cryo Hops® as late additions, in the whirlpool or dry hop, as the volatile aromatic compounds will be driven off if added early in the boil.

Cryo Hops® are an innovative hop product that is made by separating the lupulin from the hop flower using cryogenic processing. The result is a product with twice the potency of T90 pellets, with reduced astringency and vegetative material.

Note: These hops come pelletized. The powder is compressed into pellet form to make handling easier.

Typical Hop Statistics:
Alpha Acids: 21.0 – 28.0%
Beta Acids: 5.0 – 9.0%
Total Oil: 2.0 – 6.0%

Ends Soon: 25% Off Bulk Empty CROWLERS – works with Cannular Pro!

Silver Aluminum Crowler (946ml/32oz) - Case of 149 Cans and Ends CAN113

The Cannular Pro Can Seamer can seam Crowlers when used with the Chuck Adapter for Ball 300 Ends.

Bulk Crowlers from MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Take your beer on the go and leave the glass at home! These large 32 oz crowlers are a great replacement for heavy, fragile glass growlers. Fully compatible with the Cannular Pro Can Seamer when used with the Chuck Adapter for Ball 300 Ends.

Aluminum cans offer 100% protection from UV and other wavelengths of light that are harmful to beer. There’s still great debate surrounding whether cans or bottles are better at keeping beer fresh, but if done correctly, cans are theoretically the superior option. When a crown cap is crimped onto a bottle, the lining of the cap can form an imperfect seal on the bottle, allowing small amounts of oxygen in, as well as small amounts of CO2 out. Over time this can result in oxidation of the beer and lost carbonation. Seamed cans form a much better seal, which can prevent these issues

Aside from better protection, aluminum cans are undoubtedly the safest option for sharing and enjoying your homebrew. Bring your canned creations tailgating, camping, boating, or crack a few open poolside without the worry of broken glass!

To use these cans with the Cannular Pro Can Seamer you will also need the CAN112 chuck adapter.

32 oz / 946 mL aluminum crowlers
Each case contains 149 cans and lids
300/307 x 710 Crowler
One case is enough for roughly seven 5-gallon batches of beer
Compatible with the Cannular Pro Can Seamer when used with Ball 300 Chuck Adapter (CAN112)
Water-based polymer interior coating
Please note that empty aluminum cans are very delicate, and up to 5% of the cans are likely to be dented or damaged in transit. If the cans were packed in a more protective (more expensive) cardboard box, the cost per can would be more expensive than simply having some dented/sacrificial cans arrive.

30% Off CellarScience BAJA Dry Yeast!

If you’re looking for a cold fermenting yeast with a neutral character, BAJA from CellarScience is the perfect candidate. Originally developed and popularized by the Modelo Group, this Mexican yeast strain will produce clean, crisp lagers and finishes dry. Allowing for the balanced expression of malt and hops, BAJA will become your go-to yeast for fermenting Mexican-style light lagers, dark lagers, and cold IPAs.

Every batch is PCR tested to ensure contamination free yeast.

Dosage:
Two sachets are enough to treat a 5–6 gallon batch. When calculating for larger batches, use at a rate of 2.5–4 grams per gallon of wort. We recommend rounding up by one full sachet rather than measuring out the yeast exactly.

Direct Pitch or Rehydrate:
BAJA yeast can be direct pitched with great results by sprinkling it onto the surface of the wort in your fermenter. However, proper hydration helps ensure a healthy fermentation and is especially recommended for beer with a starting gravity above 15°P (1.061 SG). To hydrate yeast, first sanitize the yeast pack and a pair of scissors. Boil tap water to sterilize and then cool to 85-95°F (29-35°C). Use 10 grams (0.35 oz) of water per gram of yeast. Sprinkle the yeast onto the water, allow the slurry to stand undisturbed for 20 minutes, and then swirl. Use small amounts of wort to adjust the temperature of the slurry to within 10°F (6°C) of the wort temp before pitching. Ferment between 50-57°F (10-14°C).

Optimum Fermentation Temp: 50-57°F
Flocculation: Medium-high
Alcohol Tolerance: 9% ABV
Attenuation: 78-85%
Similar Strains: WLP940
Gluten-freeCellarScience Yeast:

For years liquid yeast has been sold as the higher quality option but times are changing. Yes, 20 years ago dry yeast was made by bread yeast producers and the quality was not as good as liquid yeast. CellarScience is helping to flip that script with the release of five high quality dry yeasts. Cell count and viability is usually higher than commercial liquid yeast pitches, which vary from pouch to pouch and don’t ship well. CellarScience yeast can be pitched directly in most batches of wort, offering significant time savings. Yeast that is quick and easy to use, high quality, and available at a reasonable cost adds up to a tremendous value. Quality yeast that doesn’t “break the brink”.

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

Do you need a pump to transfer your fermented beer or wine? Leave your fermenter on the ground and save your back with the KegLand Transfer Pump.  This 12 volt pump is self priming, and will pull beer or wine out of a fermenter into a secondary or your keg. It has a maximum flow of 1.2 gallons per minute, and will lift fluids up to 12½’ (although the higher the lift, the less gallons per minute).  Can generate up to 90 PSI pressure and 5″ of suction.  A 110 volt transformer is included so you can plug this in anywhere.

It features 3/8″ (10mm) hose barbs for attaching 3/8″ interior diameter tubing (our item E04, sold per foot), and a built in switch on the cord for easy access. Flexible vibration dampening feet with screw holes let you mount this without worrying about excess rattling. The pump body is 6½” long, 3″ wide, with an overall power cord length of 7′.

Not for hot wort, recommended maximum fluid temperature is 135° F. Not for solutions with debris like seeds, whole hop particles, or grape skins which can clog the pump.

“Ever since the first alt bier hit my lips I’ve been hooked on this style! Germany has alot more to offer than just their lagers and this is a great example!” Ryan recommends a step mash. He likes to dough-in at 130F for a 15 minute Protein Rest, and then raise to sacharification rest of 154F for 60 minutes before mashing out at 168F. He likes a 45-60 minute sparge with 170F liquor. You may need to collect more wort than you normally would to compensate for the additional boil-off. Kveik Yeastery Sale at MoreBeer!

Kveik is a Norwegian multiculture yeast that traditionally was used in farmhouse brewing, and passed on from father to son through many generations. It is known to ferment incredibly fast and creating unique flavors and aroma.

Complete Lineup! Kveik Yeastery Yeasts at MoreBeer

K.1 Voss

More Info

Voss multi-strain comes from Sigmund Gjernes in Voss. The flavor and aroma primarily stem from orange, tangerine, and citrus. Secondary flavors include tropical fruit and mild spiciness. Voss ferments well between 15–40°C and will ferment faster at higher temperatures. At an optimal temperature of 31–35°C, you can expect fermentation to take up to 72 hours. Voss is well-suited for farmhouse ales, IPAs, pale ales, and sours.

The Voss kveik comes from Sigmund Gjernes in Voss, Norway. Voss is situated south of the Jostedal glacier. Voss was somewhat isolated from the larger cities, and most people were farming and self-sustained. People shared kveik mainly with each other, and because of the distance to other settlements, the kveik was rarely mixed with other types. The Voss kveik is unique in taste and aroma, much because of the great work done by Sigmund and others to preserve the yeast throughout the years.

Primary flavors: Orange, tangerine and citrus
Secondary flavors: Tropical fruit and mild spiciness
The intensity is medium at high fermentation temperatures, and at lower temperatures, it will be less intense.

Voss ferments well from 15°C/ 59°F and up to 40°C/ 104°F. The higher fermentation temperature, the faster fermentation. At the optimum temperature (31-35°C) expect fermentation to finish in 72 hours. When fermentation is done at low temperatures you can expect fermentation time to increase. For high gravity beers, we recommend users to pitch two packs of yeast and add yeast nutrition to ensure a healthy fermentation.

Pitch directly into wort by sprinkling it across the surface, or rehydrate yeast. For fermentation below 18°C/ 64°F, or high gravity, increase pitching rate to 60 g/HL.

Available in homebrew sachets (7 gram/0.25 oz per 20-30L/ 5-8 US gallons of wort) and brewery pouches (300 gram/10.5 oz per 1000 liter/264 US gallons of wort.

K.9 Ebbegarden

More Info

Ebbegarden multi-strain originates from Ebbegarden farm in Stordal. The flavor and aroma primarily come from apple and pear, with secondary notes of tropical fruit and citrus. Ebbegarden ferments well between 15–38°C and will ferment faster at higher temperatures. At an optimal temperature of 31–35°C, you can expect fermentation to take up to 72 hours. Ebbegarden is perfect for IPAs.

Ebbegarden kveik comes from Ebbegarden farm in Stordal, Norway. Ebbegarden has traditionally produced fruit, which is believed to be the source of the fruitiness in their kveik. During the Viking age, the mild climate made many Vikings settle down to fish and farm the land in Stordalen, and the first church was built in the 1100s. Beer and spirits were a big part of celebrations and gatherings for birth, confirmations and burials, and people made their own beer with kveik, especially for these gatherings.

Primary flavors: Apple and pear
Secondary flavors: Tropical fruit and citrus
The intensity is medium at high fermentation temperatures, and at lower temperatures, it will be less intense.

Ebbegarden ferments well from 15°C/ 59°F and up to 38°C/ 100°F.

More Info

Eitrheim multi-strain comes from Reidar Eitrheim in Tokheim. The flavor and aroma primarily derive from apricot and peach, with secondary notes of orange and pineapple. Eitrheim ferments well between 15–38°C and will ferment faster at higher temperatures. At an optimal temperature of 31–35°C, you can expect fermentation to take up to 72 hours. Eitrheim is suitable for IPAs, pale ales, and NEIPAs.

The Eitrheim kveik comes from Reidar Eitrheim from Tokheim, Norway. Tokheim is located close to Odda in the heart of the Hardangerfjord and next to the Folgefonna National Park. The yeast has been passed on for generations, and Reidar got it from his grandfather. The yeast is very versatile and can be used in different beer types such as IPA, Pale Ale, NEIPA, Stouts, and Porters.

Primary flavors: Apricot and peach
Secondary flavors: Orange and pineapple
The intensity is medium at high fermentation temperatures, and at lower temperatures, it will be less intense.

Stalljen is highly versatile and works well for pseudo-lagers and IPAs.

The Stalljen kveik comes from Stig Seljeset in Hornindal, Norway. Hornindal is situated north of the Jostedal glacier. Historically, the main industry in Hornindal was farming and scythe forging. The Seljeset farm was a traditional self-sustained farm holding animals. The Stalljen name means stable, and comes from their old horse stable which now holds a private pub and brewery.

Primary flavors: Tropical fruit, mango and pineapple

More About Amarillo

AMARILLO® hops have become super popular with microbrewers. Brewers are describing the flavor and aroma as a supercharged version of Cascade. Floral, tropical, and citrus (lemon, orange and grapefruit) characteristics. However, it has a distinctive Orange character to it that is very different from Cascade. Supply has been very limited the last few years so make sure to buy some while it is available.

Hands on Review: Brewers Hardware The Dry Hopper!

This review is by Homebrew Finds Contributor Brad Probert.  Brad is an engineer, expert homebrewer and experienced reviewer.  Grab a link to Brad’s website at the end of this review.

Brewers Hardware Dry Hopper

Dry hops. Homebrewers debate their favorite dry hop, how to calculate their IBU contribution, and when is the best time to add dry hops. While many love them, the technical challenge of adding them “right” is a hefty one. Whether you’ve heard of hop creep, or tasted an oxidized IPA, you are interested in minimizing the introduction of oxygen to your beer when you add dry hops.

Kits have been discontinued, but we have the recipes for w00tstout & VandalEyes PA

Back around 2014. Wil Wheaton of Star Trek The Next Generation fame got into homebrewing. At that time he partnered with Northern Brewer to release two recipe kits VandalEyes PA and w00tstout. Since Wil has apparently stopped homebrewing as his homebrew website is currently closed. Northern Brewer has also dropped his kits from their lineup. I have both the all grain and extract versions of w00tstout that I can share with you.

w00tstout was a collaboration between Wil and Stone Brewing that was also released commercially in 2016.

More About the commercial release of w00tstout from Stone Brewing:

Drew Curtis / Wil Wheaton / Greg Koch Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout
This barrel-aged palate-saver has been a favorite among our fans—and us—since its inception in 2013. Pecans, wheat, flaked rye and bourbon-soaked barrels provide this whopping, complex superhero version of an imperial stout with a profound complexity that makes it ideal for cellaring—if you can wait that long. Now, we can’t say this beer bestows jedi powers, exactly, but your taste buds may just be fooled into believing as much. A special thanks to Amanda Conner, who illustrated this year’s label to support The Hero Initiative.

More About w00tstout from Northern Brewer:

One part über gravity, three parts über geek, this one-of-a-kind imperial stout from masterminds Wil Wheaton, Greg Koch (Stone Brewing) and Drew Curtis (founder, Fark.com) has been likened to drinking the booze-soaked contents of an old-fashioned candy store.
Deep and complex, w00tstout pours pitch black with a clingy cappuccino head erupting in an oaky, nutty bouquet of caramel and vanilla, roasty dark malt and a hint of bourbon. The curious creation of liquor-laced goodness packs in a whopping 13% ABV, igniting a boozy dance of rich flavors; roast and chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, subdued molasses, oak and warming alcohol are followed by a tinge of spicy rye in the finish. Velvety carbonation softens the creamy, lingering body to balance a brew as complex as it is creative.
