In 2011, the White House home brewed beer for the first time in, well, perhaps centuries! We were super were excited when a MoreBeer! customer first submitted his freedom of information act request for the White House homebrew recipes. We were a little surprised, and we’ll say it – let down – when we saw the actual recipes. One MoreBeer! staffer blurted out “Whoa…this seems like beer that Prince Harry should be brewing.” English malt extract, English hops, and even an English yeast strain were used; so the only thing truly American was the honey! It seems that we were not the only beer lovers to pick up on this. So while we really, really love English beers as much as the next homebrewer, we think the Commander In Chief of America and his White House Brewmasters should be using fresh ingredients from well…America.
Since we were tweaking the recipe towards this side of the pond, we decided we could also help educate the White House staff on their yeast selection. Yes dry yeast has gotten better but since its for the White House and all, we think they can spring for liquid yeast…and is there any better choice for this recipe than Wyeast 1056 AMERICAN Ale or White Labs 001 California Ale?? Not really. In fact, just queue up the star spangled banner, turn on the football game, and throw some hot dogs on the grill because we are starting to feel pretty patriotic here.
So while we send this kit along with our friendly suggestions back to the White House, YOU can make the exact same beer at home. That way if you are in a diner somewhere on the campaign trail and the president pulls up you can whip out a bottle of the ‘Honey Pale the White House Should Be Making’ or the ‘Honey Porter the White House Should Be Making’ and enlighten the Top Dog, homebrewer style.
This American Honey Pale Ale uses all American ingredients, including:
White Wheat, Crystal 15L, and 2-Row grown in the USA
Cascade hops
California Wildflower Honey
Truly a classic American Pale Ale recipe! This ale will deliver a smooth blend of Cascade floral character and biterness, tempered by a slight sweetness from the honey. The California Wildflower Honey delivers just enough residual sweetness to result in an amazingly balanced, hoppily delicious pale ale.
Makes 5 gallons

Our best-selling BrewBuilt kettles, now available with 1.5″ Tri-Clamp fittings!
T.C. (or Tri-Clover) fittings are the gold standard in professional breweries, and they’re gaining ground in the homebrewing world. The main benefit of T.C. fittings is that they’re generally threadless, which makes them very easy to keep clean and sanitary. These kettles do not include a valve or other fittings, so be sure to check out the “You Might Also Need” section below to add your desired fittings and accessories.
Designed for Brewing. Built to Last. BrewBuilt brew kettles, made from 304 stainless steel, offer an unparalleled mix of features for their price range. At the very top of the list are two welded-in-place T.C. fittings that offer a lifetime of leak-free use. As you can imagine, welding in a coupler costs more than punching a hole and using a gasketed (i.e. weld-less) fitting. Welded fittings offer a permanent connection that, in our opinion, is worth every penny. The second unique feature that we absolutely love about these brew kettles is the notched lid with silicone plug. This notch allows you so much flexibility; you can use an immersion chiller, one of our Ultimate Sparge Arms (BE950) for mashing, tie off hop bags, take a temp reading during cooling, or whatever else we all can dream up.
This Brew Kettle has a lot to offer…
Some other features we dig include the internal volume markers from the bottom to the top – so handy for instant reads. The silicone sleeved handles on the kettle and the lid are a cool feature to protect your hands. The tri-clad bottom with a 4mm core of aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel offers even heat distribution during the boil and also makes it a perfect choice for anyone wanting to use an induction burner.
Beefy 304 Stainless
These kettles are made from 304 grade stainless. That means you will have less corrosion issues than with a kettle made from lower grade 201 type stainless. We put these kettles through a corrosive salt water test in the MoreBeer! shop and they passed with flying colors. We also made sure the rivets and riveted handles were also made of stainless steel for a long term, trouble free life. The 10 and 15 gallon size are made from 1.0mm thick stainless steel. The 22, 31, and 50 gallon size are made with 1.2mm stainless – that’s pretty thick stuff – and you will know it when you pick one up.
Size Ratios and stuff
All the BrewBuilt kettles follow the recent trend to a 1.2:1 ratio where the height is 1.2 times the diameter. This is a proven commercial ratio that has been adopted in homebrewing to achieve a more consistent 10% evaporation rate during the boil. We do like this ratio for boiling. For Mashing we would prefer a little bit shallower but that is a small compromise. Dimensions for a hot-liquor tank, if you are thinking brewing system down the road, are irrelevant as any ratio kettle will do.
Unique 22 Gallon Size
This size was born from customer feedback. Many customers making 10 gallons actually want to end up with 10 gallons at the end of kegging. That means you can be starting a boil with 13-14 gallons of wort to account for boil off, kettle loss, and fermenter loss. The 22 Gallon size kettle allows you to boil those quantities with plenty of room for boil overs. Want to make a 15 gallon batch with friends… you can squeeze that in to! You’ll never regret having a little extra kettle.
Final Words
With welded fittings, a bunch of cool features, and a solid, thick 304 stainless steel core this kettle is a pretty amazing value. Remember, if you order BrewBuilt kettle from MoreBeer! we ship free anywhere in the continental USA!
10, 15, 20 and 30 gallon sizes are available.
For a limited time MoreBeer has all sizes marked down a whopping 30%.

Pack of four used five gallon ball lock cornelius kegs from MoreBeer.
More Info
From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:
Set of four used ball-lock kegs and four complete o-ring rebuild kits plus free shipping. Each rebuild kit includes 5 o-rings – one for the lid, 2 for the body connects, and 2 for the dip tubes. These 4 Packs ship free, which means a great value for you!
A great price on unrebuilt kegs. These kegs could have residual soda syrup inside and will need to be cleaned. Most will hold pressure but it is possible some will not. To totally rebuild the keg, to ensure no pressure leaks, you should also consider a new relief valve and poppets (part number listed below).
To clean the inside Alkaline Brewery Wash works great for eating away sticky residual soda residue. Kegs will come with some stickers from their use as soda syrup kegs. Stickers can be removed with effort.
The body connnects on a keg are the metal posts where the quick disconnects attach too. They should be removed for cleaning and sanitizing before each use. Kegs can come with either 11/16″ body connects or 7/8″ body connects. We sell deep sockets for the removal of either one. So if you do not have these sockets at home and want to make sure you can disassemble the kegs you may want to purchase both sockets below. Then you will always be covered as your keg collection grows.
Ball lock corny kegs are approximately 8.5″ Diam. x 25″ Height. 26 1/4″ Height with Flare fittings. Measurements may vary slightly.
As of this posting four packs are back in stock (singles are still sold out). At $279.99 or $70 each with free shipping these are one of the best deals currently available.
I have no idea how long these will last… Check MoreBeer for current price & availability
Food Safe Replacement O-Rings: You’ll probably need (or want) to replace the o-rings in these kegs. I recommend food grade silicone – Food Safe Replacement Keg O-Rings via Valuebrew – More Info
For a short time coupon code HBFPACK takes 10% off all 2 and for pack keg options at cornykeg.com. Combine this with already great prices and this is the best keg deal going right now!

A while back, we received samples of these terpenes, and we were absolutely all hopped up after trying them. You can add them at any stage on the cold side—whether it’s in your fermenter, keg, or bottling bucket. You could even add a drop or two to elevate your finished beer in the glass, resulting in a massive aroma boost that alters the flavor perception as well.
Optimized Hop Extracts
When you extract the oil from hops, no matter how good your extraction is, you’ll always wind up with certain undesirable plant compounds. Abstrax Hop Profiles are true-to-type optimized hop extracts without any of the undesirable notes typically found in other dry-hop aroma oils.
The Power of Terpenes
Abstrax Hop Profiles are created by using individual terpene isolates. Think of them like little building blocks. We assemble them together to create an exact profile of the original hop with ZERO undesirable compounds. The result is an extremely potent and accurate profile of the original hop utilizing the power of terpenes.
Extremely Concentrated
A little really goes a long way here. Hop Profiles are made from the essential building blocks of flavor and aroma so they’re naturally potent.
Dosage
Use at a rate of 2.5 mL per 5-gallon batch. Add at any point on the cold side in your fermenter, keg, or bottling bucket. Or even add a drop or two to spike your finished beer in the glass.
Features:
100% efficient flavor/aroma transfer
Consistent from batch to batch
Increase in yield/profit 5-30%
Hop Profiles will not affect IBU test results and they cannot cause lightstruck off-flavors
Zero Undesirable Plant Compounds
No Lipids
No Chlorophyll
Alora™ is the latest aroma hop from the Hopsteiner Breeding Program best known for her unique oil composition, high 3MH thiol precursors, and tantalizing aroma.

This oversized 3-piece airlock can hold 50% more water or sanitizer so your airlock is less likely to evaporate dry or get sucked dry. When the temperature drops, your fermenter will suck in solution from the airlock, and if the temperature drop is significant the airlock can be completely emptied. An empty airlock opens the door for airborne spoilants to make their way into your fermenter unchecked. The extra large 3-piece airlock offers your fermenter even more protection, and is especially useful when cold crashing.
While a simple device not all airlocks are the same. Some other designs have only a couple holes in the plastic lid and this can cause the airlock to pop out during an active fermentation. Just like our normally sized airlock, our design features many holes in the lid that allow CO2 to escape easily. Additionally some other airlocks have a cross hatch design on the bottom while our is open to allow Krausen foam to enter the airlock if necesary. Better to clean your airlock out than to find it laying on the floor next to your fermenter 3 days later.
Another cool feature of this 3-piece airlock is that 1/2″ ID tubing will fit onto the center post for use as a blowoff. This can be handy if you have a really active ferment that is blowing out the top of your fermenter.
Please Note: Airlock only – stopper not included.

These food-grade nylon bags are available in a range of sizes and with either a fine or a medium mesh weave, which make them both more versatile and a better value than disposable cloth muslin bags. These bags are used for a wide range of different applications during brewing and fermentation.
Nylong bags are often times used to add pellet hops to the boil or as a dry hop in the fermenter. Retains the vast majority of the hop material, making for clearer beer and easier transfers. Can also be used to add smaller amounts of other adjuncts to the boil or fermenter, such as orange peel, oak, spices, etc. This small 6 x 8 inch nylon mesh bag will hold up to 2 oz of pellet hops after they swell up. Features a handy drawstring to keep the bag closed and tie it off to your kettle handle, spoon or mash paddle.
