DuoTight Compatible Plastic Carbonation & Line Cleaning Ball Lock Caps – $5.99 + Free Ship Eligible

Carbonation and Line Cleaning Ball Lock Cap - Plastic FE133

Carbonation and Line Cleaning Ball Lock Cap – Plastic via MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

This plastic ball lock cap features soda bottle threads, allowing you to convert a 1 or 2 liter soda bottle into a convenient travel growler. The ball lock is compatible with both gas and beverage disconnects, so you can charge the PET bottle before you leave the house and dispense on the go. Attach 3/16″ or 1/4″ ID tubing to the barb to serve as your dip tube and you’re all set!

These caps also work great for quickly and conveniently cleaning your draft lines. Mix up a small batch of line cleaning solution in a soda bottle, attach the ball lock cap, and then connect it to your beverage line. Place a bucket below your tap to catch the cleaning solution and open your faucet. Then simply turn the bottle upside down and squeeze it to push solution through your line and out the faucet. You can also choose to pressurize the bottle first, but squeezing the solution through is just as effective.

Fermenting with the FermZilla? This is the same ball lock fitting included with the FermZilla Pressure Kit and it’s also compatible with the FermZilla Collection Container. If you use the collection container to add dry hops, attach one of these caps and you’ll be able purge the container of oxygen before opening the dump valve to introduce the hops. Attach some tubing and diffusion stone and you can oxygenate your wort through the collection container as well!

The barb is Duotight compatible. If you’d like to use the cap with 8 mm OD EVABarrier tubing, see DUO100.

For a stainless steel option see KG500.

Specs:

  • Liquid and Gas Ball Lock Compatible
  • Overall Length – 2.5″
  • Barb Length – 7/8″
  • Barb OD – 1/4″
  • Barb ID – 3/16″
  • 28mm PCO 1881 Threads

What are these used for?

  • PET Bottles as Growlers: These are generally intended to convert 1L and 2L bottles to growlers.  Fill up a 1L or 2L PET bottle with your favorite homebrew.  Put one of these on (purge the headspace by squeezing if you want to) and then pressurize for transport.  This should help to reduce oxygen pickup and maintain carbonation levels.
  • Fine tune or rapidly carbonate beer: You can also use this cap to rapidly carbonate beer.  Same process as for transport, just set your regulator to the proper pressure and shake or agitate the PET bottle to help introduce CO2.  Or hook it up to CO2 and let it sit in you kegerator.
  • Flushing Carboys, Fermenters and Kegs – As a piece of tubing the barb, hook to your CO2 line and use this to flush receiving vessels wiht CO2 to reduce O2 pickup.
  • Draft Line Cleaning Projects:  I have developed two draft line cleaning projects using similar (but different) caps – Build A Recirculating Draft Line Cleaning Pump | Mark II Keg and Carboy Cleaner Draft Line Cleaning Pump Conversion

Announcing: BlowTie Diaphragm Spunding Valve Complete Kit from MoreBeer!

BlowTie Diaphragm Spunding Valve Complete Kit

BlowTie Diaphragm Spunding Valve Complete Kit

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

With this complete kit you’ll be ready to use the BlowTie Spunding Valve right out of the box. The BlowTie is used to release excess pressure on a pressurized fermenter or from a receiving keg during pressure transfers. This diaphragm spunding valve is much more accurate than the spring and poppet style, and works much better at lower pressures.

Pressure Fermentation
Pressure fermentation is becoming more and more popular at the homebrew level, but in order to do it safely and accurately, you need a way to release excess pressure. You’ll pressurize your vessel to your desired psi, but once fermentation begins and those hungry, active yeast start creating CO2, the pressure inside the vessel will increase. Attach a spunding valve and set it to your desired pressure, and it will blow off when the pressure gets to high and close up again when it’s back to your desired psi.

Pressure Transfers
Even if you don’t have a pressurizable fermenter, you may have done pressure transfers from keg to keg during filtering or after fining. During pressure transfers, it’s a good idea to have a bit of head pressure in the receiving keg, especially if you’re transferring beer that is already carbonated. Having a spunding valve in place will allow you to consistently control the head pressure and give you more consistent results, without losing carbonation in the process.

Diaphragm vs. Poppet
With the poppet style spunding valve, a spring pushes against a poppet to keep the valve closed. When the poppet lifts up to open, the surface area the gas pushes against becomes larger, and the spring has to work harder to push the poppet down and reseal the valve. This can lead to more gas being released than intended, and the remaining pressure in your vessel may be at a lower psi than your spunding valve’s set psi.

Instead of a poppet, the spring inside the BlowTie pushes against a diaphragm, which has an immensely larger surface area. This means the surface area that the gas pushes against while the diaphragm is closed is significantly closer to the surface area it pushes against when the diaphragm is open. This leads to higher accuracy, and the remaining pressure after excess gas is released will be much closer to your set blow off pressure.

Kit Includes:

  • BlowTie
  • Pressure Gauge
  • Ball Lock Disconnect
  • Duotight Tee & Flared Duotight Fitting
  • 2x Lengths of EVABarrier 8mm OD Tubing

A Spunding Valve allows you to ferment under pressure, naturally and precisely carbonate in the keg, fix over-carbonated beers and lots more. See: Build a Spunding Valve – for loads of information on building and using a Spunding Valve.

Until now, this has only been available as individual components (parts list below) via MoreBeer.  I’m excited to say that they are now selling it as a complete kit.

The BlowTie is a pretty amazing Spunding Valve solution.  Check out my Hands on Review

Announcing: Torpedo Stainless Steel Ball Lock Spunding Valve!

Ball Lock Spunding Valve (w/ Pressure Gauge) FIL42AS

Ball Lock Spunding Valve (w/ Pressure Gauge) via MoreBeer

More Info

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

A spunding valve is a great accessory to have when performing pressure transfers and is a must-have for fermenting under pressure. Designed by the MoreBeer! R&D team and made from stainless steel components for long-lasting quality. Our spunding valve features the Torpedo Keg gas-in disconnect and our specially designed adjustable stainless gas pressure relief valve (D1833L). This model also features a pressure gauge that reads from 0-15 psi.

Don’t need the gauge? Check out our FIL42S.

Note: The very end of the pressure relief valve can be adjusted by unscrewing the knurled adjustment knob. If too tight and not adjustable by hand, wrap a towel around the adjustment knob and loosen with pliers. Then finger tighten or loosen to desired pressure.

A Spunding Valve allows you to ferment under pressure, naturally and precisely carbonate in the keg, fix over-carbonated beers and lots more. See: Build a Spunding Valve – for loads of information on building and using a Spunding Valve.

Introducing: Duotight Flow Stopper Automatic Keg Filler – now available at MoreBeer

Duotight Flow Stopper Automatic Keg Filler DUO250

Duotight Flow Stopper Automatic Keg Filler from MoreBeer!

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

The Duotight Flow Stopper is a handy devicie to use while filling kegs or when transferring between kegs during filtering or after fining. Simply attach the Flow Stopper to the gas post of your keg, then when the keg is full it will automatically cut off flow and prevent excess beer from exiting your gas post and spilling onto the floor.

For even better results, we recommend using the Flow Stopper with the BlowTie Spunding Valve. The BlowTie will enable you to apply head pressure to the keg, meaning you can control the flow speed and reduce the foam generated in the filling process. You will need a short length of 8 mm OD EVABarrier tubing to connect the BlowTie to the outlet of the Flow Stopper.

  • 2 x Duotight 8 mm x 5/8″ FPT (DUO104)
  • 1 x Duotight 8 mm elbow (DUO107)
  • 1 x Duotight 8 mm x 1/4 in. flare (DUO106)
  • 1 x Ball float
  • 1 x Stainless spring
  • 2 x 8 mm OD EVABarrier joiners
  • 1 x Acrylic sight glass

Announcing: The Torpedo Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube!

Torpedo Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube from MoreBeer

From the product description, check product page for current description, price and availability:

With the Torpedo Buoy™ floating dip tube, you’ll be pouring the clearest beer possible from first pint to last! As your beer sits at low temperatures, more and more haze particles settle out to the bottom of the keg. This means the clearest beer in the keg is always at the top. The Buoy™ uses a stainless float to position the silicone dip tube just 1 inch below the surface of the beer. Kick homebrew haze to the curb and start drawing the brightest beer possible. Yeah, Buoy!

Installs on any Ball Lock or Pin Lock keg quickly and easily. Simply remove your bev out post and replace the long metal dip tube with the provided 3″ metal dip tube. Slide one end of the silicone tubing over the 3″ dip tube and the other end of the tubing over the metal tube connected to the float. The silicone tubing is sized for 5-gallon kegs, but you can cut it shorter to use on 1.5 or 2.5-gallon kegs.

Specifications:

  • 3″ Stainless Dip Tube
  • 1/4″ ID Silicone Tubing (23.5″ long)
  • Ball Float Made from 304 Stainless Steel

I’m a big proponent of the idea behind the Keg Buoy Floating Dip Tube.  In fact, I’ve used a similar, but very difficult product to find, for years,  I’m super excited that MoreBeer has introduced this product.  It’s a great idea and I’m glad it’s readily available to US homebrewers!

Australian Homebrewers: now available at KEG-KING in MELBOURNE

Pressure fermentation is the new hot thing in homebrewing for many good reasons. To do that, you need a fermenter pressurizable to at least 30 psi and a spunding valve to maintain 5-15 psi pressure during fermentation.

Introducing SPUNDit – an advanced spunding valve with unique features:
Precise & accurate
CO2 capturing capability
Fine adjustment with 0-30 PSI pressure gauge
Anodized aluminum main body (NEW & upgraded)
One push-to-connect (PTC) 6mm OD IN port with plug
One PTC 6mm OD OUT port
Stainless steel ball lock straight (non-angled) – a $20 value by itself! The angled disconnect just looks so goofy for this part. So this is your chance to own a stainless steel disconnect finally … and a SPUNDit.
Industrial grade diaphragm pressure relief valve – specifically configured for homebrewing, not hardware store stuff.
Compact design with finger-tight swivel 1/4″ female flare fitting for convenience & mounting versatility (NEW & exclusive!).
Made in USA
Another innovative product of HomeBrewerLAB.com
What you can use SPUNDit for:
Pressure fermentation
Pressure fermentation for 2 kegs at the same time
Precise control of the pressure of your serving kegs
Pressure transfer from primary to secondary
Counter pressure bottle filling WITHOUT a need for “two product dual pressure regulator”
Keg purging with CO2 from active fermentation*
Feed you homegrown cannabis or indoor herb grow box
On-keg pressure gauge & injecting CO2 through SPUNDit’s auxiliary port
Carbonate your beer precisely
Make Fermentasaurus, FermZilla, BrewKeg, Conical Fermentor better. Their built-in poppet PRV is not designed for fine adjustments.

A Spunding Valve allows you to ferment under pressure, naturally and precisely carbonate in the keg, fix over-carbonated beers and lots more. See: Build a Spunding Valve – for loads of information on building and using a Spunding Valve.

Announcing: 10 and 15 Gallon Torpedo Ball Lock Kegs

 New 10 & 15 Gal. Torpedo Kegs!

New 10 & 15 Gal. Torpedo Kegs!

From MoreBeer:

Look out below! The Torpedo Keg Depth Charge series just dropped and they’re set to send blast waves through the homebrew world. Large-scale homebrewers will appreciate the ability to fit their entire batch into a single 10 or 15 gallon ball lock keg, and you can expect the same great features that have made Torpedo Kegs such a hit. Laser welded construction for superior quality, rolled stainless steel handles that will last a lifetime, and stackable design that won’t interfere with your fittings.

Thoughts from HBF: This is a great entry into the homebrewing keg market.  Larger 10 and 15 gallon kegs are tough to find and even more difficult to find at a reasonable price.  The current prices, $219 for a 15 gallon keg and $199 for a 10 gallon keg are.. bargains, especially considering that they ship for free to many US addresses.  Beyond kegging larger homebrew batches these can be used as fermenters.
