from William’s Brewing:  “The 65 Watt MKII Pump from Keg King is a magnetic drive high temperature pump capable of pumping hot wort at temperatures of up to 248° F. It can pump up to 12 gallons per minute, making it perfect for systems too large for the 5 gallon per minute 25 Watt MK11 or the 7 gallon per minute Riptide pump. The maximum height it can pump is 17’ although gallons per minute will be reduced at higher pumping elevations.

The pump head and impeller are constructed of food grade Xarec plastic (very similar to Polysulphone). The magnetic drive acts as a clutch allowing the user to put back pressure on the pump to slow down flow. Like all magnetic drive wort pumps, it is not self priming – you must flood the pump head before turning on the pump. The pump has ¾” BSP male fittings on the inlet and outlet, which are compatible with all ¾” female NPT as well as BSP fittings. The inlet is in the center. Besides Xarec plastic, other wetted interior materials are nitrile and stainless steel.

The magnetic drive ensures no lubricated bearings are in contact with the liquid at all, so you can be sure there is no chance of any contamination of the liquid being pumped. The pump features a 6′ power cord, and a mounting plate for permanent mounting. The pump is 11” in overall length, and 4½” wide including the mounting plate. The pump head can be mounted at any angle on the pump to fit your application (an optional stainless head, William’s item X69, is also available).

Transfer fermented, but uncarbonated, beer from carboy to carboy or from carboy to keg. For those brewers that perhaps cannot lift a carboy or have issues with siphoning this is a great solution. Self-priming (will push air) so that it can draw out of a carboy or tank. Gentle diaphragm action so as to not “beat up” the beer. Made of food-grade, NSF approved, materials polypropylene and santoprene, so no metallic interaction with the product. Pumps 3 gallons per minute.

Flow can be restricted with an inline valve positioned on the outflow side. Self-regulating motor is designed to temporarily shut down, and then turn back on, when restriction pressure exceeds pump capacity. Has a heat limitation of 125 degrees Fahrenheit so cannot be used in brewing applications.

The March 815 PL pump is very similar to the 809 HS. The 815 has a higher flow (7 gallons / min vs 6 gallons / min) and can pump higher in the air (18.6 ft vs 12.1 ft). This 815 pump features a stainless steel pump head.

The March 815 PL pump is constructed of food grade material that will not create off flavors. It will handle wort at boiling temperature, and take back pressure (flow restriction). This pump can be used for an all-grain system, or used to pump wort through a counterflow or brazed plate heat exchanger.

The March 815 uses a magnetic-drive pump, so there is no chance of oil contaminating beer. Do not allow magnetic-drive pumps to run dry, because these pumps are not self-priming. That means the pump will need to be mounted below the level of the liquid to be pumped. They will not work with a siphon. This will cause the pumps to run dry, which will destroy the units and void the warranty. If the flow needs to be reduced, a valve on the output side can be used to restrict the flow. Do not restrict the flow into the motor.

Always use a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) when using a pump to reduce the chances of electrocution. If you do not have a GFCI outlet, use the drop down menu below to add a GFCI outlet adapter.

The March Pump also requires two 1/2″ NPT couplings. One is for the in connection, and one is for the out connection. See the options below.

 

I use my brewing pump for vorlaufing/recirculating, transferring from my mash tun to brew kettle, chilling with a recirculating wort chiller and transferring to my fermenter.

The MKII Pump from Keg Land is a magnetic drive high temperature pump capable of pumping hot wort at temperatures of up to 248° F. It can pump up to 5 gallons per minute, making it perfect for 5 to 20 gallon systems. The maximum height it can pump is 11’ although gallons per minute will be reduced at higher pumping elevations.

The pump head and impeller are constructed of food grade Xarec plastic (very similar to Polysulphone). The magnetic drive acts as a clutch allowing the user to put back pressure on the pump to slow down flow. Like all magnetic drive wort pumps, it is not self priming – you must flood the pump head before turning on the pump. The pump has ½” BSP male fittings on the inlet and outlet, which are compatible with all our ½” female NPT fittings. The inlet is in the center. Besides Xarec plastic, other wetted interior materials are nitrile rubber and stainless steel.

The magnetic drive ensures no lubricated bearings are in contact with the liquid at all, so you can be sure there is no chance of any contamination of the liquid being pumped. The pump features a 67” power cord, and a mounting plate for permanent mounting. The pump is 7¾” in overall length, and 3¼” wide including the mounting plate. The polysulfone head can be mounted at any angle on the pump to fit your application (an optional stainless head, William’s item Q80, is also available). Shop around and compare, we think this is the best value currently available in a high temperature wort transfer pump.

Important Safety Notice: This pump, like all 110 volt items that run in potentially wet areas, should be plugged into a GFI protected outlet for safety.
