Symons Galaxy Kits at MoreBeer

It’s a big brewing world out there, make sure you see as much of it as possible! Australian Sparkling Ale is one of those mysterious beer styles that a lot of us had never sampled (or even heard of, really). But its light, easy-drinking body paired up with delicious hop-forward flavors and aromatics make it an outstanding, sessionable brew. Pilsner dominates the malt profile with a dash of White Wheat and Carapils for body and mouthfeel, allowing the hop combination of Galaxy and Strata to really pop. Similar to how the best view of the Milky Way is on a moonless night in the Outback, these hops are on gorgeous display as post boil and dry hop additions, with very little bitterness to cloud the citrus, tropical, and cannabis character they impart.

Symons Galaxy was first brewed at Imperiale Beer Project in Brentwood, CA as part of a virtual collaboration with Australian beer historian, Peter Symons. Who better to have at your side (albeit through the computer screen) than the gentleman who literally wrote the BJCP guidelines for the style? This collaborative effort resulted in a unique, modern take on the ASA style—introducing Strata, a non-Australian hop, into the mix to complement the heavy additions of Galaxy hops. Symons Galaxy was a smash hit, and is sure to satisfy any hop head out there.

Consecration is a sour dark ale aged in a Cabernet Sauvignon barrel. It is aged for 4 to 8 months with currants and brettanomyces. You can look for rich flavors of chocolate truffle, spice, tobacco, currants, and a bit of Cabernet.

What sets this kit apart from any other kit out there, is the fact that we include a chunk of an actual consecration barrel in each one! Whether or not the bacteria from the original beer will form their own colony in your beer is hard to prove right or wrong. Either way, we think it is pretty cool!”

  • This includes an actual chunk of Consecration barrel from the brewery
  • Availability of Consecration Kits at MoreBeer can be touch and go (guessing this has to do with sourcing actual Consecration Barrels, but that’s only a guess).  As such I don’t often see this kit specifically discounted.  As of this posting, both all grain and extract versions of this kit are in stock. These just came back in stock as of the 6/16. Check product page to see if you can still get in on this batch.
  • Consecration is awesome… A note on Consecration:  I’m not big on picking favorites.  I think there are far too many good things to pick favorites on most things.  Having said that, if I were going to write down a list of my favorite beers, Consecration would certainly be towards the top.  This is an amazing beer.

When galaxies collide, stars and planets alike are ripped apart with all types of matter being flung hither and yon. Luminescent particles are scattered to the ether, condemned to wander the void or bound to coalesce into new celestial bodies. Some believe that amongst the chaos of colliding fragments, a mythical form of cosmic dust condenses into Space Nectar—matter so delicious that our Terra-bound taste buds would surely find it incomprehensible. Physics be damned, Moonraker Brewing Company’s extraordinary Hazy IPA is the best estimation of what it may be like to take in this heavenly ambrosia. Space Nectar overflows with flavors of peach, apricot and orange sherbet. Over half of the hop bill is comprised of Cryo Hops® which lend a clean, pungent aroma to this absolute juice bomb. A healthy helping of pale wheat malt and flaked wheat provide the perfect amount of fuzz to complement the bright notes of stone fruit.

Moonraker’s head brewer, Brad Johnson, recommends cooling the wort to 170°F before adding the whirlpool addition to really make those hops pop. Ferment with Imperial Juice A38 or similar strain to add the ideal finishing touch.

Review: Barebottle Brewing Company Torcido Lager – Homebrew Recipe Kit

Torcido Lager is a Mexican Lager. Sort of. I don’t know much about the style definition of a Mexican Lager, but MoreBeer’s site describes the recipe creation from Barebottle Brewing (San Francisco, CA) as non-traditional. Apparently, Barebottle likes mixing things up, so they describe this beer as a Mexican Pilsner with a German Helles twist. For Barebottle, this beer scored a Gold in the 2019 GABF, so crazy description aside, I figured the beer had some cred behind it.
