Kolsch is the original light beer, and is a favorite style of homebrewers everywhere. It is brewed to have a softly sweet malt character and a clean crisp finish. Likewise, the hop character of this style is soft and balancing. Some examples have a slight fruitiness, such as apple or pear, but this character takes backseat to the soft malt and hops. Overall, this style has superb drinkability, but it can be challenging to brew well. This recipe is tried and true and hopefully will bring as much satisfaction to you as it has to us.

A heavy helping of Flaked Oats provides a full body and creamy texture, fine-tuned by a late boil addition of maltodextrin.
The out-of-this-world graphic is as much of an inside joke as the name itself. After a long brainstorm of potential beer names, the resulting list had an overwhelming theme of sci-fi and astronomical references. When a coworker remarked that the names didn’t make sense, noticing that there were no additions of Galaxy or Comet, our intrepid kit developers looked at one another, shrugged, looked back at their coworker and said flatly “We like space.”
