Potential Uses: Convert to fermenters (search Amazon for food grade grommets) and for grain storage. My general rule of thumb for unmilled grain storage is 5 lbs per gallon. At that rate, these would each hold 25 lbs of grain. That’s an estimate, actual capacity will vary. A food-grade six gallon plastic bucket perfect for all kinds of home beer or winemaking activities. Plastic buckets are often used as a fermenter, bottling bucket, or even sanitizer bucket. We go through thousands which helps keep our price down. If you want to use it as a fermenter you will also need to pick up the optional lid, stopper, and airlock. This bucket is also available in a version that includes a spigot (see recommended products below).

If you use this plastic bucket for fermentation be sure to use care when cleaning. Do not use any abrasive pads that would scratch. Once you get a scratch in a plastic bucket it is very hard to sanitize. This is also why we don’t recommend storing equipment in a bucket between uses as a fermenter. A hot PBW soak is often a perfect way to clean a bucket, followed by a Star San soak for killing bacteria.

Bucket has external volume markings up to 5 gallons.

Buckets are translucent and do not come with lids.
Buckets are not designed to hold pressure.
Lids are not gasketed and so do not always form a perfect, airtight seal. Not intended for long-term storage.
Food grade up 180°F.

How much grain can you store in a 5 gallon bucket? My rule of thumb for grain storage capacity is 5 lbs per gallon. With that estimate a 50 lb sack of grain fits in (2) 5 gallon buckets. That’s an estimate and will vary.

Gamma Seal Lids – Hands on Review – are a great upgrade to standard buckets. You attach the base of the unit to the bucket and leave that intact. The lid screws on and off easily. No more prying lids off. These are also airtight. I use buckets with Gamma Seal Lids as my primary storage for bulk grain and recipe kits.

Gamma Seal Lids – Hands on Review – are a great upgrade to standard buckets. You attach the base of the unit to the bucket and leave that intact. The lid screws on and off easily. No more prying lids off. These are also airtight. I use buckets with Gamma Seal Lids as my primary storage for bulk grain and recipe kits.
How much grain can you store in a 5 gallon bucket? My rule of thumb for grain storage capacity is 5 lbs per gallon. With that estimate a 50 lb sack of grain fits in (2) 5 gallon buckets. That’s a rough estimate, actual storage capacity will vary.

Potential uses: Convert to fermenters (search Amazon for food grade grommets) and for grain storage. My general rule of thumb for unmilled grain storage is 5 lbs per gallon. At that rate, these would each hold 25 lbs of grain. That’s an estimate, actual capacity will vary. Additional uses could include – assist with cleaning and sanitizing items and generally lugging stuff around.
