You could use this to monitor kegerator or fermentation chamber temperatures. It shows current temperature along with recording minimum and maximum values. Those figures can help you determine how stable your kegerator or fermentation chamber/area is.

IRK-2 infrared thermometer will be your favorite professional tool for broad range temperature measurements among industry and home use. IRK-2 includes circle laser IR targeting, large LCD display, and extended temperature range.

IRK-2 Infrared Thermometer is equipped with a circle laser indicator, which allows you to better approximate your target area without the guesswork of a single laser. The 8 laser dots show you the diameter of the area being measured. As you move closer or further from the target the laser circle will change diameter. This infrared thermometer has an adjustable emissivity feature, which allows you to measure a variety of surface types. IRK-2 Infrared Thermometer includes a thermocouple socket for use with any type K thermocouple probe. A two line display shows infrared and thermocouple measurements simultaneously. And, with a 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio, the Industrial Infrared Thermometer allows you to measure small target areas from further away (1 inch spot at 12 inch distance). This keeps the lens cool when measuring hot surface temperatures.

IRK-2 Infrared Thermometer’s display features include Min/Max, Diff. Mode, Avg. Mode, Hi/Low alarms, and continuous scan mode with a large main temperature display, which reads in °F or °C. It’s everything you need in a professional infrared thermometer.

Since this is no touch, you can check the temp of yeast washing and yeast rehydration water and your starter wort without the risk of infection. I find mine particularly useful for rehydrating yeast.

Infrared thermometers should not be considered a direct replacement for a conventional thermometer. A quality IR thermometer will give you a close approximation of surface temperatures. Note that steam seems to throw off readings. Uses include: Contained yeast rehydration water, chilled wort or starter temperature, kegerator, fermenter or fermentation area and beer tasting samples. From HBF: Make sure the components you use are compatible and rated for your intended application. Contact manufacturer with questions about suitability or a specific application. Always read and follow manufacturer directions.

Thoughts from HBF… So, this has two wireless sensors along with an ambient thermometer that’s built into the main unit. It also records minimum and maximum temps for each sensor. You could use one sensor in your fermentation chamber and one sensor in your kegerator to monitor temperatures. The min and max feature would also give you a great idea about how things are working. As a bonus you also get all the same info for the ambient temp where the base is located. Note that the sensors need to be within the stated range of this unit (or closer).

The RT600C is a super accurate pocket thermometer that’s accurate to ±0.9°F – up to 212°F. This accuracy is only found in professional thermometers. The RT600C has been thoroughly tested against NIST-traceable standards.

Max/Min Function
The RT600C digital pocket thermometer saves the highest and lowest temperatures since your last reset. The thermometer is great for checking dishwasher, fridge or freezer temps. When you pull your roast or turkey from the oven, insert the instant-read thermometer and leave it while the meat rests so you know the highest temperature reading. Max/Min records the high and low over a period of up to 1 hour, when the auto-off shuts the unit down. Max/Min will start with new values when the thermometer is turned back on.

Auto-Off after 1 Hour
If left on, the RT600C digital pocket thermometer will automatically shut down after 1 hour; still long enough to make the Max/Min function useful. What good is Max/Min memory if the thermometer turns off too soon? If you need to record Max/Min for longer than 1 hour, see the RT600B, that does not have an Auto-Off feature, for recording over longer periods.

Tough Commercial Design
The RT600C digital pocket thermometer has been designed with minimal food and grime traps. Rubberized button panels are sealed and withstand temperatures to 190°F (for commercial dishwasher testing). No welded or braised joints on the thermometer probe that would shelter microbes or create likely breakage points. The RT600C is designed to survive short term, shallow immersion – you can wash the thermometer under the tap or use it with wet hands. Rated to IP65. NSF approved for use in commercial food applications.

Warranty
The RT600C comes with a two-year coverage on material and workmanship including any failure in the thermometer circuit. Includes online, email and phone access to the ThermoWorks technical service group.
