Not all bi-metal thermometers are created equally, so if you’re looking for one that you don’t have to constantly tap to get an accurate reading, this is the thermometer to choose.

Other bi-metal thermometers have a helical coil in the stem that is tack welded to the stem itself causing hang ups to occur, and you have to tap the thermometer to get an accurate reading. Our new line of thermometers feature a super sensitive bimetallic helical coil suspended from a copper coated bushing fixed in the stem. This superior design provides a faster response to temperature changes and assures more accurate readings.

It’s accurate to 1% of the total range, and it features a polished 2″ stainless steel housing, hermetically sealed waterproof case and glass face for maximum durability. The unique anti-parallax dial also makes for easy reading.

This dial thermometer should be calibrated at 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Its temperature range is 20-240 Fahrenheit (-20 to 120 degrees Celsius).

ThermoWorks IR Thermometer Sale – Lowest Prices Ever

ThermoWorks makers of the nearly universally lauded Thermapen have a short infrared thermometer sale going on. Prices are said to be the lowest ever for these models.

Since infrared thermometers are no touch, you can check the temp of yeast washing and yeast rehydration water and your starter wort without the risk of infection. I find mine particularly useful for rehydrating yeast.

Beer brewing is filled with processes that are based on temperature. Some processes achieve acceptable results with general temperature ranges, but others require specific temperatures where a few degrees hotter or cooler make a difference. But perhaps the most important aspect of temperature accuracy is repeatability. You set up a mash or fermentation process based on expert feedback you read in a book, or just anecdotal advice you get from fellow homebrewers. If it works out to your liking, you want to be able to do it the same way again next time.
