MoreBeer: Introducing Imperial Organic Yeast
We reported on this a few days back. Here is the official announcement…
from MoreBeer: “The first organic yeast strains to hit the homebrew market are now available! Imperial Organic Yeast offers numerous different strains, all of which come standard with 200 billion yeast cells per can! The 200 billion yeast cells allow for a healthy pitch count, without having to make a starter. The innovative canned packaging is also great and very easy to use!”

Do you know what makes a yeast organic? I’m not trying to be snarky, I generally find it interesting to know what process(es) they do differently compared to say white labs or fermentis.
No I do not. I can reach out to Imperial yeast and ask, if you’re really interested.
From their FAQ… “Q: Isn’t all yeast “organic”? A: That depends on what you mean by organic. All Imperial Yeast products are USDA Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth. Therefore, we cannot use synthetic chemicals, petroleum based chemicals, and other unnatural ingredients to grow the yeast you are using in your beer.”
Ahh that makes more sense now. Thanks for digging up that info for me. You run a terrific blog that I check daily! 🙂
