What Does Tare Mean? Tare allows you to subtract the weight of the container you’re using to get a true weight of the contents. Add your empty container to the scale and press the tare button. This zeros out the scale. Now add the thing you’re weighing and the scale displays just the weight of the contents of your container. In my opinion the tare function is essential for any good homebrewing scale.

What I like about this scale... I like the high resolution (1/100th gram) given the relatively large capacity (500 grams, about 17.6 ounces, or just over a pound). I like that it has the requisite (in my opinion) tare feature, that it has a stainless top and that it uses easy to source AAA batteries [Search AmazonBasics Batteries]. Given the specs of this scale, it should work for weighing hops, water salts, smaller amounts of specialty grains and other brewing ingredients.

Homebrew Finds Needs Your Help

Thanks for 14 Years!

I started Homebrew Finds in November of 2010. Post #1 says.. “It’s my goal to provide you with homebrew and beer related finds and deals found in both likely and unlikely places.”

Thanks to how awesome the homebrewing community is the site quickly took off. It has been fantastic. Thank you for all of you tips, contributions, write-ups, reviews and encouragement over the years.

We have GREAT content

We have great content, outstanding deals, in depth reviews, tips, resource posts, how-tos, news and more.

Homebrew Finds We Have a Problem

The problem is… how does that content get to you. Since I started the site the landscape has changed when it comes to search engines and social media sites.

For a long time the key to showing up in search engines and social media sites was… have a lot of followers and put out good content. But, sadly that’s not so much the case any more.

Many of our write ups still rank very high in Google search results but searchers must scroll past a good chunk of sponsored advertisements and Google’s own AI summary of content. Even if my content is featured in that summary, there’s a very good chance the searcher won’t ever visit the source material.

As far as social media sites, for a site like Homebrew Finds, they want to be paid to promote our material. That’s not to say you’ll never see it if we don’t do that, please do follow us on social media, but there’s a much lower chance that you’ll see it if I don’t pay to promote. The site does bring in some revenue but not nearly enough to be able to promote posts. I’m not saying that we’re shutting our doors. Homebrew Finds is and always has been a labor of love that comes to you from one homebrewer and craft beer lover to another. What I am saying is we need you to visit if we’re going to keep the lights on.

So, how can you help?

The only way I know I can get my content to you is through my own social network of sorts… email. Please consider subscribing and taking a glance at the email daily. Many days there might not be anything for you, but taking a quick look is the only way you’ll know.

Five Star Chemicals says that you should not soak items in Star San solution for extended periods of time. Even chemical resistant bottles are not impervious to damage caused by extended exposure to acid. Glass and stainless are exceptions. How Often Should You Clean Lines?

The Draught Quality Beer Manual says… every two weeks.

That recommendation is for a commercial operation. What about homebrewers? We serve far fewer beer on our kegerators, but on the other hand, we can have been on tap and in lines 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Considering all of this, my recommendation is every 1 to 2 months.

What Does a Flow Control Faucet Do?

In order to properly serve a pint of beer from your kegerator you need to have a balanced system. You decide what carbonation level you’d like to serve and what temperature you want your beer to be and set a CO2 pressure based on those two factors. To pour a proper pint, well carbonated without excessive foam, you need to balance your system. Balancing offsets your set CO2 pressure with the proper amount of resistance. Not enough resistance = fast pouring and excessively foamy beers. Too much resistance = beer pours too slowly or not at all. Each component along the way provides some resistance. Typically most of the resistance comes in the form of adding more beer line. More line = more resistance. For a full rundown of this see: Step by Step Balancing Your Kegerator Draft System

What do flow control faucets do?

Flow control faucets feature a built in flow compensator that allows you to adjust the resistance your faucet is exerting. That means less tubing and potentially less foaming and wasted beer. The compensation feature also makes it easier to serve higher carbonation beers as you can set the faucet to provide resistance to offset the increased pressure needed to store and serve these beers at higher pressures. Instead of replacing your beer line with ever increasing lengths of tubing, you simply turn a knob to increase resistance.

What do flow control faucets do?
